The Shadows were good in their time - but they led to better stuff.
stuff like shadow magnets, for example?
Thanks so much Miri, for standing up for me.There is no need for nastiness and sarcasm.
There are 613 laws scattered through the Torah. They are divided into several sections. 2 main sections tell us what to do and what not to do. Further dividing this is who and where the laws apply. Keep in mind that Jesus stated the laws are in force until heaven and earth disappear. Are you suggesting that we do not accept Christ's giving himself to pay for our sins as the sacrificial system tells us about? Or that we should keep our minds from dirt as the dietary laws teach? Or we should keep ourselves as belonging to the Lord as circumcision teach?
Or are you saying we do not need the physical reminders to do these things?
Or do you mean that you believe we can make our own way without God's input?
When you put words in someone's mouth you need to point to the post where they say that.blik thinks that Jesus was crucified on wed. and raised on the Sabbath, so we have to keep it to be saved.
just so you know the mindset at work here...……...
One importance of the Old Testament is the 315 prophecies that Jesus fulfilled.I think we should study all of God's word, for there is a lesson, but we do not need to follow the Old Testament rituals, or physical covenants, which is why the Bible says Jesus took the physical ordinances of Israel out of the way nailing them to His cross, for they were contrary to us for they could not provide spiritual salvation, but since they could not have the Spirit in the Old Testament God had them do physical ordinances until the Spirit was poured upon all flesh.
And the lesson is how dedicated Israel was to God at one time, and how He is pleased that we follow what He told us to observe and do, which is abundantly pointed out in the Old Testament.
Which other nations have claimed the God of Israel, but no other nation did it completely right but Israel, when they were in the truth, but other nations mingled their falsehood with the God of Israel, America included as she allows all religions to be practiced in her country including Satanism, and the occult, and the love of money which is the root of all evil.
Boy do Americans love their money, and what I have to say is if you get a life insurance policy do not tell the person who you put down as the beneficiary, for you might get bumped off, lol, that kind of love of money.
While the New Testament is great the Old Testament seems more fascinating to read, for in the New Testament we know Jesus is Lord and Savior, God manifest in the flesh, and be led of the Spirit being Christlike, and do not follow the world when they come together and say Peace and safety.
But in the Old Testament we read so much more, and more diverse of a reading of different things.
And without the Old Testament being written would anybody believe the New Testament if it was stand alone without a witness telling about it before hand.
So the Old Testament is important.
Ah ok. Reformation...being all as one in Christ...no more earthly temple made with human hands but God dwelling with us right in the body of Christ? There is indeed. You have misunderstood what that phrase "the time of reformation" (in Hebrews 9:10) means as related to rituals: Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation*.
*Strong's Concordance
diorthósis: a making straight, rectification
Transliteration: diorthósis
Definition: a making straight, rectification [some Bibles have *new order*]
It simply means the time when the New Covenant was ESTABLISHED, and a rectification was made in how sinners must approach God. Christ's sacrifice on the cross put an end to all ceremonies pertaining to the Old Covenant. Indeed the veil in the temple was supernaturally torn from top to bottom to confirm that "IT IS FINISHED" meant it is finished.
The title of this thread says "Should we study the rituals...", and that verse above says God is done -- finished -- with the rituals. End of story. Why? Because Christ is THE REALITY who has fulfilled everything pertaining to the Old Covenant.
So now for any Christian to raise this issue is to OPPOSE GOD AND CHRIST. In other words, it is a rejection of the perfection of the finished work of Christ. And that is what the epistle to the Hebrews is all about -- a warning to Hebrew Christians to avoid reverting to Moses after Christ has set aside the Old Covenant.
Jesus said the law is in place until the heavens and earth disappear. How can we learn what the law says without the Torah? First 5 books of the Bible! Most of the prophets are in the Old Testament. The whole Bible is the Word of God. Why would we then reject the majority of the Bible?Ah ok. Reformation...being all as one in Christ...no more earthly temple made with human hands but God dwelling with us right in the body of Christ?
maybe the OP hasnt read Hebrews? You can study what the old rituals were in Hebrews as it does explain what happened to them. The OT record of them is for our learning though, I wouldnt discard the OT because the NT shows how Jesus fulfilled them.
My Holy Bible does have both OT and NT, I know some people just only read the NT.
As said before some say yes, others say no, I dont think theres any requirement of SHOULD, the only obligation or commandment Jesus gave us is to love God and love our neighbours as we love God.
But note that Paul advised Timothy to study to show himself approved of God, a workman rightly dividing the word of truth. As long as we know how to divide the word of truth i.e OT and NT then thats what God approves right? We dont mix them up.
And mixing them up is what this thread is about. As long as we know how to divide the word of truth i.e OT and NT then thats what God approves right? We dont mix them up.
1. The whole Bible is given to Christians as noted in 2 Tim 3:16,17.Jesus said the law is in place until the heavens and earth disappear. How can we learn what the law says without the Torah? First 5 books of the Bible! Most of the prophets are in the Old Testament. The whole Bible is the Word of God. Why would we then reject the majority of the Bible?
Try again.1. The whole Bible is given to Christians as noted in 2 Tim 3:16,17.
2. What is in the OT (Genesis to Malachi) is for our learning,
3. But what is in the NT is to show us that the Old Covenant is now NULL AND VOID while the New Covenant has been in effect from the day Christ died on the cross and proclaimed "IT IS FINISHED*.
4. The rituals of the Old Covenant are null and void and have no relevance to Christianity.
5. The temple does not exist in Jerusalem, and we are to focus on the Heavenly Temple where Christ is our great High Priest.
