That statement is not in the constitution. It was written by Jefferson in a private mail and has no legal binding whatsoever. Also, it is constantly misused from its original intent. When Jefferson made that statement it was meant to keep the government out of church, not the church out of government. So it's really a useless quote for you, when put in its proper context.

That may be the case for its origin but it is easily seen in decisions made by SCOTUS in the past century. They are completely fine with keeping religion out of government. It might not be official but its clearly illustrated.
Well there are two trains of thought...one is people are born gay, at which point it isnt a choice any more than being straight would be a choice or anymore than being black is a choice. Unless of course you live in self-denial of how you were born. Two being gay is a choice not a birth thing in which chase you would be right it isnt the same.

Funny how when you post facts it's solid and supposed to sway people, but when you're given facts, you dismiss them and make excuses. I'm done with this.
Marriage is an intersection where bible and society is set up to crash/clash big time.
Both have their standards...one set by God, the other God.
Civil legislation only reflects the state of that society and is influx; God's standards do not change.
By 'bodily' design alone the correct view should be apparent and to the extent society veers from God's standard it is a reflection of it's degeneracy. Legislation will not fix a sick heart of society only a revival through the Gospel which changes hearts truly will help.

I like how you try to say i made excuses. Separation of church and state while perhaps not inline with its original intention is still use today in connection with the first amendment for cases like this. You can try to argue it, but they still use a form of it. Maybe I'm just making it up, or all the law classes I took in college and all the case briefs I had to do finally paid off. But try to be less Ugly about it.

No, you cannot have morals without religion. Who came up with the morals? People are not simply born with good moral values -- they are taught. People are born with wicked and sinful hearts.
I grow tired of being called a "hater" because I object to homosexuality. I guess you would have to call God a hater, too. In my life, I have had plenty of gay/lesbian friends. I never hated them because of their sin (as I hope no one hates me for mine!).
Um,....I'm no law whiz, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night,..so here goes. Do they not use their interpretation of the law??? And with this, certain ideological differences between them? Which is why they must vote on a ruling..not cut and dry? I am not exactly sure where this reference to Amendment 1 comes in to this particular issue.
Alright then,.....I am curious. Why go after the term Marriage? Why do gay right supporters feel the need to change the definition of Marriage? If a legal partnership between 2 people provided them with the same benefits, could they not be ok with 'legal partnership'? Why the need to go after a term that God used to describe the union between a man and a woman?

The thing thats give heterosexual couples certain guaranteed benefits from the government is called marriage that is even what the government calls it. Homosexuals want the same rights in their relationships. So its just overall easier to call it a marriage. If it makes you feel better you can call the heterosexual marriages god-sanctioned and the homosexual ones marriage in name only for all i care.
