Has your walk with the Lord ever been hindered by a relationship? Did it it cause you to speak or behave differently from the ways of God you knew to be right? Did it affect your testimony or your ministry? If you are struggling with spiritual growth, has it ever occurred to you that a wrong relationship may be playing a part?

I've had a few that caused me to walk closer to the edge than my convictions said to go.

Relationships are very tough on the walk with God. Because someone can kinda conceal their true self, and then once emotionally attached, their true self comes out, and it's emotionally harder to end it or distance yourself from them. Or their dangerous side, meshes with our dangerous side, and hey, everyone likes to play with fire once in a while.

On the other hand, I don't necessarily think a relationship making you less focused is evil. Even Paul says married people have more cares, and can't attend to the relationship with God with as much focus. This isn't listed as a sin, it's just the natural outcome of being in relationship. So I guess at that point someone has to decide whether they want to focus on God, or have less focus and attend to the cares of a potential mate/mate.

1 Cor 7
32 I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord. 33 But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife— 34 and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband. 35 I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.

Exactly! This can be one of the toughest battles ever!

I've always been of the opinion that people will always influence us. The best we can do is choose who we surround ourselves with. In relationships that influence is even more prevalent. And yes, God pulled me out of one terrible relationship. My life would not be anywhere near what it is if He hadn't. I truly thank Him for pulling me out and teaching me so much through that.

when you are married you are supposed to BOTH focus on God, thats one of the things that keeps your relationship together, follow what he says and do what he says and you will have a long and happy marriage, so many people dont get that, all the keys to staying together are found following Gods word

I know someone who wasn't christian but was dating a christian woman. She liked him a lot and they went out almost every night, and every night they went out she would give in to temptation because she felt it so strongly and she didn't even care if they were in a public place. She was young and had only been with one other man in the past. She did manage to retain her virginity though, but she was so caught up in the dating that she almost missed a deadline on a scholarship that she was relying on for tuition. That was when she started re-evaluating things and she finally broke it off because her friends were telling her that the guy was too old for her and not good enough for her. They were probably right. He still misses her too.
