you know people are people. I know that as Christians the one thing the devil really likes to trip us up with is self righteousness. I actually learned about it first hand by watching someone I am close to struggle with it and lose. It made me want to pray every single day not to be a self righteous shmuck. I think that was a lesson I learned and passed.

I was beginning to wonder if I am just a snob that happens to be a Christian lol  Seems like the majority of the people responding don't have this issue lol I guess its each to their own. I remember having a roommate who would invite his buddies over to watch a hockey game and drink beer, and there was this one guy who would swear so much; every second word was the f-word. I'd hang around in my room or get out of the house, because I don't want to be around that. It was driving me crazy  I just don't see why swearing so much is necessary; it just shows how their compensating for something, trying to prove their cool. Learn some vocabulary already; there are other words that can be used to express oneself! But as a result, I was labelled as a snob.

Another rant from yours truly, arwen ;)

I'll attempt to respond to your post in a serious manner...

TELL THAT HEATHEN HE'S GOING TO BURN IN HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok seriously I'm done now, I hope.

I definitely have people who are leery of me when the first thing they find out about me is that I'm a christian, and they already kind of have this awkward assumption that I'm scrutinizing them and will burn them at the stake if they so much as move. But I try to make myself as open and as accessible to them as possible. I work in a factory, and I've worked in factories before, dirty jokes and foul language are usually commonplace, so it's something I kind of have to tolerate if I expect myself to have a relationship with these people and get to know them, and have them get to know me as someone they can trust, and not worry about being judged. Do I have to sit there and listen to crap? Yes, but I also know, where as they avoid another person in the shop who is a Christian, they have no problem whatsoever talking with me about their issues and being open with me, not only that, but I can actually minister to them and offer them bible verses for advice, and they know I'm not judging them, and even if they disagree (which they usually do) they're still respectful enough of me not to get angry over it, and whether they agree or not, I'm still feeding them Jesus.

I ranted way off the subject, but I think you get what I'm saying.

This is quite helpful for me. I know I can be less than tolerant and compassionate, and too idealistic when it comes to certain behavior that I know a person has control over. And as a result, I am not available to help or minister to others. It seems like its a weird balance, of setting some sort of example of being in this world and not of it, and yet trying to form authentic bonds with non-believers.

I normally dont have a problem because every non believer ive met lately has been like what type of christian are you? Then I have to explain that I completely ignore 98% of the stuff that nonbelievers dislike about christians and then everything is hunky-dory.

I've found, on the other hand, Christians who refuse to watch secular shows as innocent as Boy Meets World because they think they promote immoral values. I've also met plenty of Christians who think rock music is of the devil and that you'll go to hell for playing guitar at church.

They are the worst...

What helps me is reminding myself that, these people don't know better. I only work with 6 people right now, so we're already pretty close, and there are three of us closer than the other three, but this is really the first time I've gotten to actually look into someone else's life and see what it was like, it's very hard because I feel terrible for them for what they've been/are going through, but again it also helps me have much more grace for them, because I understand why they're so hard hearted.

They are this way because they choose to be that way, but they're also in a world full of garbage that is bombarding them, and it only hurts them that much more.

I hear all the time after someone gets to know me that at first they thought I was completely snobby...or stuck on myself...I'm always shocked to hear this . it usually takes people a long time to get comfortable around me and I'm usually rejected ... I keep chipping away with kindnesses , simple politeness and stand my ground with who I am... I think it's because I dont participate in gossip , or stand around cutting people down... I usually don't fit into a group for a while... and that's okay... I'm just me and can't change not wanting to be nice to people ... many people I get around make others the butt if their jokes ... I make myself the butt of the joke and I don't think they understand that because of self elevation issues ... yeah pretty much I'm the oddball in most social situations ...

Holiness and seperation isn't being snobby, its the manifestation of the spirit of God working in your life, most churches and professed Christians today represent more of the world than a seperated child of God!

They know more about thier favorite TV show, or sports team, they listen to glorified so called Christian rock and pop, run down to get a new tattoo, or even run to the movie theater to watch the new R rated release of Hollywood movies, while they condemn those few who stand for real repentance and faith, followed by seperation from the world.

WHERE DOES SALVATION BEGIN?
Jas 1:21 Therefore putting aside all filthiness and overflowing of evil, receive in meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your souls.
Jas 1:22 But become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

If you want to put the true salvation message in a concise and focused version, look no further than what James is telling us to do. Why don't you hear these verses in the modern church system today, and why do so many mega preachers and ministries neglect these convicting and life changing verses?
The answer lies in the great delusion, followed by confusion, followed, by a huge compromise of the word of God, and the basic salvation message, that was lost hundreds of years ago.
Man has taken it upon himself to take the pure truth of the gospel, that is calling every person who can hear, to repent, stop sinning, and prove this repentance by deeds, along with a working faith in righteousness, and purity of heart, not a provision set up for us to lean on, but a command for us to put aside all filthiness and wickedness, and receive the truth of God’s word, which will thus make sense, now that we are on the same page as the true believers, who gave all they had, including their lives to keep the word pure, and undefiled.
Today it’s just accept, believe, and confess, do nothing, because it has been done for you, you do not need to stop your vile sins, or even obey and walk a righteous life, no you just accept the package, because you are a poor, helpless sinner, unable to stop sinning on your own, which makes the verses by James above, of no effect, void of any real power, and just a suggestion, that is impossible to do.
The whole salvation message is backwards, and really makes the word of God of no effect, of no power, and just a book of suggestions to the professing masses who have bought into the lie, and have received the mark.
I just don't see how one cannot expose those who do not give this message, and cover it up with many errors. This is eternal life we are dealing with here, not a walk in the park on Sunday, or getting together with your church club, to eat, drink, and be merry, because you do nothing, it has already been done for you, and nothing you do, even porn watching, getting high with the boys, sleeping with your girlfriend or boyfriend, etc.,, will not exclude from the kingdom of God, even though 1 Corinthians ch 6, 9;10, says otherwise, again another suggestion, and no one can actually be that obedient, why? because they claim the born sinner cop out, which lets them off the hook, to live double minded, worldly, carnal lives, while doing their service to God, and feeling mighty good inside, because they have done their good works on the outside, but inside are full of dead man’s bones.
It’s clear folks, in repentance, Acts 3:19, you put aside all filthiness and wickedness, through a season of Godly sorrow first, preparing your heart to receive the implanted word, that will transform you into a child of God, free from the bondage's of sin, walking and following the example of Christ and being a doer of His word, as commanded to retain your salvation.
If this isn't your message to the lost and dying word and church, then you need to go back to basics, come out of the system of errors and lies, dig into the word with all your heart and soul, forsaking all those worldly distractions that only distort the truth, and make you a double minded person, unable to discern truth from error.
Remember, your eternal destiny is at stake here, you need to have this right, and stop following the millions of wolves, who are leading many down the wide road to death!

Judging by the fact that rated-R movies are terribly arbitrary rating wise then I would say that it is up to each person. Some people has no issues with violence, some with curde language, some with sexual imagery. It all depends on what you are tempted by or stumble to Tommy. Same with music.

I don't have problems with non believers as long as they are ok with that- that i believe in God.
I hate whn someone makes stupid or rude-jokes about God and thngs that are important to me.
Once i had to say to a guy-> Ok, i'm sick of your stupid jokes. If you wanna see me again-keep your mouth shut whn i'm around. Don't wanna hear your stupid jokes anymore.
great response i totally agree with her and i perfer to mix little with the world i love my monastic-apartment the best.

I'm pretty sure my brother thinks I'm a snob. Maybe not only my brother, I think it's most people in my family. I try to show them by my actions that I care about them, and that my words are not empty but I ughh.....it takes time. I completely understand the feeling of frustration some people mentioned.

I can definitely relate with this. It's far more difficult to hate when you really understand who someone is. Isn't that what 'loving your neighbor' is about? :)
