Friends, let me introduce you to a philosophical
principle: There’s no such thing as “uninterpreted” truth.
Only God possesses that. But if you’re a human being
(which I presume you are because I’ll be pretty terrified if
you’re not), you only possess interpreted truth.
One day, a teacher wanted to teach her kids about
the evils of alcohol. She got a glass of water and a glass
of whisky and two worms. First, she dropped one worm in
the glass of water. The worm gently glided through the
liquid, doing a backstroke and humming a tune.
Next, she dropped the other worm in the glass of
whisky. Poor creature. It gyrated and coiled up as though
to protect itself and, in three seconds flat, dropped to the
bottom of the glass dead as a rock.
Smiling contentedly, the teacher looked at her
awestruck classroom of kids and asked, “Well, children,
what lesson can you learn from this experiment?”
A small boy from the back raised his hand and said,
“We should drink whisky so that we won’t have worms.”
I repeat: As long as there are humans involved, it’s all
in the interpretation.
The first time I really read the Bible, I was only 12
years old.
And it changed my life. In those pages, I found God and
I gave my life to Him.
I loved the Word so much, I devoured it. And through
the years, I’ve
seen it bless millions.
But when you study history, I’m shaken by this fact:
People have used the Bible to oppress, battle, torture and
kill people. For centuries, popes and Protestant preachers
justified slavery because it was in the Bible. And then there’s
the Crusades in the Middle Ages where thousands of Muslims
and Jews were massacred by Catholics commissioned by the
Pope — who had the book of Joshua as the model.
Friends, it’s not the Bible that causes wars, torture,
violence and oppression.
It’s our wrong interpretation of the Bible.
Let me repeat: Because what we possess is an
interpretation, we should remain humble. And it should
prevent us from harming others in our self-righteousness.
It is here that I propose my interpretation of the Bible.
(And because it’s only an interpretation, I share it to you
with humility.)
When I read the Bible, my “eyeglasses” is the life of
Jesus — His life of radical love. Specifically, His greatest
commandment, “Love one another as I have loved you.” This,
I believe, is the essence and center of the entire Bible. It’s
also the essence of Christianity itself and, I believe, of all
religions of the world.
So when an interpretation of a particular Bible verse will
cause me to degrade, oppress or insult another human being,
it must be wrong. Because it conflicts with the life of Jesus
and the greatest commandment of love.
So are you becoming more like Jesus every day? Peace and Grace friends! God speed!

You are on the right foundation.

1Cor 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
1Cor 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
1Cor 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
1Cor 3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
1Cor 3:14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

lol I like the worm example, it reminds me of my life as a teacher. you think you are telling and teaching them one thing and they come back with something you didn't even consider as an intrepertation of events and words.

We have to

"2 Corinthians 10:4-6 (New King James Version)

4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled."

We are charged not only to control our bodies and words but our thoughts also.

Did you know both God and the Satan tries to plant thoughts in you head?

Example: Peter said "you are the Son of God" Jesus said God put that thought in your head, it is from the Holy Spirit that you know this.

Example: Peter rebuked Jesus and told him "you will not die on the Cross" and Jesus said "Satan. I rebuke you. Get you behind me"

Or something like that. Its in the Bible I can find the exact verses later if you like but the idea is that not all thoughts are created by you and your flesh, some are planted and you need to weed the garden of your mind and make sure that the only plants and thoughts that are in your mind are of God.

How do you know the difference?

Galatians 5:16-26 (New King James Version)

Walking in the Spirit

16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[a] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
