Hey,

So I can't decide if this is the most appropriate place to share my thoughts, but because I am a young adult and my thoughts partially come from the idealism that is linked with youth, I figured why not.

These past two years, as I have started college, I have done a lot of thinking about the purpose of life for all mankind, but more importantly for myself. I have concluded that the purpose of life is actually an intimate thing- there is not one overall purpose that all of mankind falls into, but instead each person has a different purpose. What is more important is the realization of one's specific purpose and planning your life to follow it.

So I guess my first part to this post is have you all wondered what the purpose of life is? If so, what did you come up with?

I will tell you mine, but remember its not supposed to be universal. This is in three parts:
1) To honor God and live a life in adoration of him. To live humbly and compassionately just as Christ did when he was on Earth.
2) To appreciate and respect the world that God has created. To not get locked in one place, but to take the time to explore and praise God for the beauty he created.
3) To connect with others. To take the time to meet other people so that I can learn from them. To build strong relationships and actively strengthen relationships already created.

So yeah that's it! I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. I find this extremely fascinating- understanding what people think the true meaning of life is.

Going off of this (kind of)- I realize that with my purpose established, many of the other things in my life do not matter. I have voluntarily decided to minimize my lifestyle so that I can dedicate more time to the stuff that truly matters. This means getting rid of clutter, extra things i don't really need, decreasing my use of technology, and becoming more self dependent. Does anyone else want to live like this? Have you thought about it before? I am not saying everyone should- in fact its been really hard for me to transition and I have just started- but I am interested if this idea to live basically has come across any of your minds?

Anyway that really it. Feel free to share whatever you want- I am excited to hear your thoughts! Thanks!

I don't know that i've seen anyone ever (even outside of Christianity) teach that there is one purpose for all people. Perhaps outside of the basic fundamentals that we are all created for Gods enjoyment and relationship with Him. But outside of that fairly broad umbrella the teachings are typically 'finding your purpose'. It's actually a biblically taught concept. It refers to the body having many parts, each with a specific job. And each part is meant for that job and is not meant to do the other jobs.

And i think it's pretty normal that nearly everyone wonders what their purpose is at one time or another. A few are lucky to find their purpose early in life. Many not til later. Some never.
But i would say that 1 and 3 do fall under that broad umbrella of what God intends for all people. Even parts of 2. The only part not meant for all is 'not being locked into one place'. That aspect may be specific to you, but i don't see that as a universal thing as many are, obviously, not called to move around much.

It's good, though, that you are thinking on this, working it out and trying to put things into action. Especially at your age when it is still easier to do so.

It all sounds so good - but just add one more thing. Spend lots of time just WITH the Lord in the way that brings His presence more real to you.

We have lots of purposes, but the most is this relationship with Christ. Some get so busy doing and serving it is overlooked.
