I liked all sports ... played basketball all thru school, dabbled in hockey and baseball a bit too. But today, being older and having slowed down a tad, snooping for historical pieces buried beneath the soil is what I love. Probably more than is healthy or proper at times ... but I've had this "bug" for the last 15 years or so. Amassing a fair number of small artifacts having to do with the Revolutionary and 1812 wars. So I guess these days, my favorite sport would be history :)
I have always wanted to buy me a metal detector and do some looking around some of the older settled sites of Texas.

i have 3 blonde sisters, and when my husband teases me he tells me my blonde is showing...
that i'm the only blonde he knows who would dye her hair brown...

so, is it just me, or was that ambiguous? :)

also, is our OP tired of us plaguing him with personal questions?
Both of my daughters are blond and I save all the blond joke for them. They are great kids. My oldest daughter's husband is preaching in Alabama and my youngest daughter is trying to get into graduate school.

my mom went to visit a cousin (of mine) in Austin, and he kindly took her to the Alamo.
she can't say enough about what a great trip it was.

I was born and raised in Texas and even went to basic training in San Antonio but I have yet to see the Alamo.

you okay, phil? would you mine if i pray for you? ♥
I only told one person to stop praying for me in my life. Pretty sure there is no such thing as too much prayer.

===============================================================

brother Phil,

as long as we are in the flesh, the 'roller-coaster' ride will never cease;
our job is to find our own particular strength/space that our Father has so graciously
given to us in order to acknowledge Him and that He has given us exactly what
we need to survive for the 'next' 'test' `that awaits us.
I actually feel pretty decent this evening. This is nothing new for me. But I'm tellin' ya, I am looking forward to "no more pain" soon. :)

I think about that frequently. There's an old gospel song, something about "Oh what will it be to be there". Knowing I can't imagine it, I still wonder.

Just thinking about the merciful God we have... even the most difficult challenge, worth the effort to keep in the Lord's path... =)

i'm sorry, phil. i know constant pain can be quite debilitating, both in body and mind.
and i know you know Jesus is right there with you in the midst of it.

i will surely pray, though. ♥

Be forewarned OH ... it's addictive. Arriving at an early homestead in a farm field circa 1780-1840 ... long ago buried with only fragments of old pottery and clay pipe stems visible ... and anticipating the days finds. Early morning, dew on the ground ... the smell of spring ... or dying leaves in the fall ... sipping a coffee before the hunt and taking in the moment with a good friend. A lot like hunting I suppose. It's been called "dirt fishing" by many ... and that's essentially what it is. While our machines look for the metal fragments, we "visually" look for native artifacts as well. Stone axes, arrowheads etc. But they are far more plentiful in your neck of the woods. Texas is a great location for this hobby. :)

Speaking of speaking my mind, can I get serious???

I'm very tired of people who have little or no knowledge of English, let alone any another language who set themselves up as god on a variety of subjects, including the KJV being perfect, capitalism being the choice of Jesus, and other inane and middle class American values.

I keep thinking this is an international forum, and I keep getting told that it is American, in more than one way.

Not that I mind people being proud of their country, defending it, etc. But the values that America has are not necessarily Biblical, whether they work for you or not.

Technically, a Biblical state would be a monarchy, with a king, and some captains over the thousands and hundreds. And depending upon which era you lived in the Bible, you might have to serve time on the temple chain gang, serve in the army to either defend or push back boundaries of Israel (not other countries) and later on, in the New Testament, live under the appointed flunkies of the Roman empire, like Herod and Pilate. And certainly have taxation without representation, not sure about the right to carry a weapon. Probably not so much in the New Testament, just because that is defying the Roman armies.

Anyway, this forum is getting on my nerves, so probably time for a break.

PS. I hope you feel better soon and get the treatment you need, Phil.
Let it out Angela, let it out. Do I need to recommend a 12 step program?

The Alamo is a surreal place to visit.
The whole RiverWalk is amazing actually....a place you must visit while in Texas.

Even over places like where Kennedy was shot, in Dallas.
That had a creepy feel to it.

Agree about the Alamo...............never been to the Book Depository in Dallas, but it wouldn't surprise me about that one. I bet the Twin Towers site has the same aura around it.........don't know though.

The River Walk is fantasticallywonderful!!! San Antonio is one of my favorite cities in Texas.

I will say, that the worst aura I ever experienced was the one and only time I ever went to New Orleans.......man, it was horrific.......I couldn't wait to get out of there. I know, I know there are millions of people who love the place, but I will never set foot in it again..........

Funny hobby indeed... it can take you into hours searching, and it would just look like 'minutes'... I just watched a couple weeks ago, an american tv show about it, a couple of guys searching for war old elements burried, and then they took them to a specialist who would say the real value of them... very interisting and funny 'adventure'... :D

The River Walk is awesome, isn't it?
America's Venice.
I love it there.

I was in NY, at the towers, 2 weeks before it happened.
Haven't been back since.
My pictures creep me out from that visit, so I threw them in a drawer.

I agree with your thoughts on N.O. You pretty much covered it.
