Truth be told, having Mittens makes me sadder than I was before I got her. I can't pick her up, I can't hold her, I can't hug her, I can only pet her when SHE wants to be petted. Otherwise she takes a swipe at me with her claws. I just wish she were more friendly and outgoing, like Tequila was. Everything I COULD do with Tequila, I CANNOT do with Mittens and that makes me very sad.. :( I almost think I'd do better without her.

ah, i suspected Mittens sadness, and missing Tequila.

how old is Mittens? my sister-in-law rescued a dog who had been abused and it took quite a long time to build trust. she (unlike me) is very patient, though, and it worked out, though the dog never outgrew her fear of the basement.

do you think Mittens was just largely ignored and isn't used to attention? orrrr... maybe she's that sort of cat?

cats can be like that, can't they. gotta take them on their terms. little princesses. lol

i'm still sorry you're sad and missing Tequila, little bug. i pray for your hurting heart.

She needs you though to show her what real love is. Give her time she will come around, but she does have her own personality so she will never be exactly like your Tequila. She will learn to love you.
 
Lady Blue - My Samantha kitty ran and hid from us for three months. I would force love her meaning I would pick her up pet her a couple of times then put her down let her run and hid again. Did this daily and thought she would never come around. At the three month mark I was sitting on a chair eating something and she jumped up on the arm of the chair on her own. I looked at her and said softly that I would like to think she wanted to spend some time with me but I knew she was there for the food.

It was a start and from there she started coming around more and eventually would lay on the back of the couch and lick my hair grooming me as her very own. She ended up being a very loving kitty to my daughter and I but would still run and hide whenever anyone came over. She rarely would show herself to anyone but us so I had folks say I had an imaginary kitty cause they never saw her....lol We had her for 11 years and it took her a good two years to become the trusting cat that would be friendly and purr with us.

Some kitties just take time. Your Mittens might be sad over loosing whatever home she had before so you both might be in sadness right now. Hugs for you and pets (as in a nice rub down) for her.

Mittens former owners are all allergic to her. Therefore they couldn't pick her up or hold her or play with her. She snuggles up to me only when I'm petting her. She sleeps in the closet all day, and roams around at night while I'm sleeping. I don't dare pick her up or she'll scratch out my eyeballs.. lol

Even if all she would let me do is hug her, I would be happy.. With Tequila, I picked her up and held her all the time. We would touch our heads together. I could hug her. I could cry into her fur. I could put my head onto her chest and listen to her purr.

I think a big part of why I'm sad is also because I haven't grieved for Tequila yet. I cried for her while she was still here, knowing that "that day" was only a few days away. And after she went, all I felt was a sense of overwhelming relief. Relief that she wasn't suffering anymore, and relief that MY health wouldn't suffer anymore due to having to clean up after her constantly.. My bawl day is coming soon but the holidays are coming up, and Christmas especially is gonna be hard. So I'm trying to put off bawl day until January when all the holidays are over.

If tears could resurrect the dead, Tequila never would have died. I shed alot of tears for her before she was even gone. :( I know I'll see her again, but that doesn't help me in the here and now. But I know if the veil was lifted off my eyes, I'd see her laying here on the bed with me. :)
 
I'm ready for Christmas....I'm already playing Christmas music on my flute. The last song I played was Here comes Santa Claus....yippee!!
 
Talking about Christmas, even before Thanksgiving!! How utterly blasphemous.. You two get a lump of coal in your stockings.. ;)

Haha I started playing when I was 11 so about 15 years too but I left it on and off. So I'm not the best player. :p
 
Gee! In the last two days I almost fell down a flight of stairs at work, broke my toe leaving my entire foot, black and blue and I keep stubbing my toe...what in the world is going on? Lol
