What is a Speaking Tongues?
Is it necessary to speak in tongues in our times?
Not necessary ...but extremally beneficial

Benefits of Speaking in Tongues

.
1. To speak the wonderful works of God

Act 2:11
Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
.

2. To magnify God

Act 10:46
For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.
.

3. To give thanks well

1Co 14:17
For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.

.

4. To bring a message from God {when interpreted}

1Co 14:5& 27

5)except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

27) If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let that one interpret.

.

5. Sign to the unbelievers

1Co 14:22, Mar 16:17

1Co 14
22) Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

Mar 16
17) And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

.

6. To edify you, build you up.

1Co 14:4, Jude 20

1Co 14:4

He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

Jde 20
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the holy spirit.
.

7. To speak to God mysteries {divine secrets}

1Co 14:2
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

.

8. Makes intercession for us

Rom 8:26&27, Eph 6:18

Rom
26: Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Rom
27: And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God

Eph 6:18
18. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
.

9. Your proof in the senses world that you are born again.

1Co 12:3
Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the holy spirit.

.

10. To have the spirit bear witness with our spirit – Similar to #9

Rom 8:16

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
.

11. To know you are a joint-heir with Christ.

Rom 8:17

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
.

12. To strengthen you with might in the inner man

Eph 3:16

That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his spirit in the inner man;

Study Acts 2 and 1 Cor 12, 14. The word "tongues" was commonly used in the 17th century to denote languages. And the word "unknown" was inserted by the KJB translators but does not belong in the Greek text.

BTW: The Holy Spirit dispenses this gift and He will determine when it is needed. Not man.

Since Christian missionaries to foreign lands have had to learn those foreign languages in recent times, it is rather doubtful that the gift of supernaturally speaking a foreign language is still in place. Also the purpose of tongues as revealed in Isaiah was to convince Israel that the Gospel was from above. And all of Israel did not obey the Gospel. Furthermore Paul specifically tells us that this gift will cease, and when the Bible was completed the three gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 13 ceased. "that which is perfect" = that which is complete. Not "Who which is perfect".

Speaking is tongues is not a gift.

In. 1Co 12:1, as well as 13:2, 14:1 & 14:12. The word GIFTS has been added four times …..These should be deleted or crossed out in your Bible, as they are not in the original text and not well supplied in these verses… because it contributes error

The word “spiritual” in verse 12:1 is the Greek word (pneumatikos) meaning “that which belongs to, is determined by, influenced by, or proceeds from the spirit” (spiritual matters).

Spiritual matters includes gifts …but not limited to it.

1Co 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

The word “but” is a contrasting conjunction that sets in contrast that which precedes it … verses 4-6 was dealing with …operation, administration, and diversities of gifts…. but now it’s changed from gifts to manifestation.

A gift is individually given, and you do not have it unless someone gives it to you. A manifestation is evidence, a showing forth of something you already have.

The word manifestation in the Greek is phanerôsis meaning “to be visible,” “bring to light,” “or open to sight” “to show forth in the sense world”….

What is it that we are to bring to light? ….Verse 7 says the spirit….. Verse 7 further goes on to say that it is given to every man (all inclusive) every person (who is born again of God) to profit withal.

Tongues is one of the manifestation of the spirit along with the other 8 which are available to operate as a born again believer. It is clear In other verses that not everyone will but that does not negate the availability of what is available to those of us in Christ.

One of the manifestations is listed as “gifts of healing” ….. because every healing is a gift, but it is still a manifestation (evidence) of the spirit that any believer can tap into.

Unknown is part of scripture. It simply means that the language is not known to the audience. The KJV is always correct.

It's is unknown to the speaker …but it can be known to someone who is present in the meeting… which has happened many times.

“”The KJV is always correct.”

That is a very myopic statement of belief.

For the original God breathed Word it’s appropriate and accurate…. But when you involve man’s insertion …. it’s like the automobile putting itself on the same level of the designer and maker.

I primarily use the KJV ….some of the added words are ok ….but I could list well over 400 additions subtractions that alter the truth.

What is a Speaking Tongues?
Is it necessary to speak in tongues in our times?
It’s the ability through the spirit to speak in native tongues in order to spread the gospel to all people it’s this gift

“And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilæans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judæa, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:3-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

That would be pretty amazing and also it was necassary to carry out the great commission of preaching the gospel to all nations

A bunch of uneducated Galileans began to speak in everyone’s native language under heaven in the ancient world and they all hear it clearly in thier own tounge

The spiritual gifts are always for the purpose of furthering the gospel on earth and strength and edification of the present church.

they weren’t just babbling with incoherent tongues they were speaking many foreign languages because God had commanded them to preach the gospel to all people of all nations

This isn’t to say there’s not other aspects of it , but just a presentation of where the terminology comes from initially in scripture regarding the gift of tongues and it’s practical use to furthering the gospel bieng preached to all people

Speaking in tongues is a spiritual gift from God and not everyone experiences it. Part of my journey with Him is trying to identify what my gift is and He reveal it to me in His time.

Amen !!

“Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. And God hath set some in the church,

first apostles,

secondarily prophets,

thirdly teachers,

after that miracles,

then gifts of healings,

helps,

governments,

diversities of tongues.

Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

But covet earnestly the best gifts: ( that’s what’s in your heart right now ) and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.”

What is a Speaking Tongues?
Is it necessary to speak in tongues in our times?
Once born new by God in God's Spirit and Truth, one can do anything needed to be done by God doing it through them. Not by my wants, or needs, even though that does and has gotten confused in physical life here on earth.
The conflict between first birth and second birth, still going on today
I see this

Luke 21:14-15

New International Version

14 But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. 15 For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.

When it is Father doing the Holy Spirit work through me, I state it and get surprised myself and see it was not me, just as on Pentecost, when that day happened, it was the disciples, that were willing for Father in the Holy Spirit to speak truth through them, and did that in the other known tongues, they heard their own language from the disciples mouth. 3000 believed that day and God entered them and spoke back to the disciples to them in their own language. Which confirmed there is no more need to go through rituals to ge saved by God. These others were not water Baptized before salvation from God to them. They simply from their own soul each believed God and got set free in salvation given them to stand in love to everyone, not a few as only flesh knows how to do, only love those the love them back. English, Greek, Spanish, are each a tongue, and God when leads through anyone, knows exactly what to say to others through others and there is no condemnation to anyone ever again over sin, Jesus took that first for to live in us and through us in Spirit and Truth leading us, being dead to first birth daily
A process anyone learns over time that continues in belief to be set free as are by God first for them by Son's done work for each person personally first.
Communication between us all, came back on Pentecost, understanding, no more Tower of Babel as what happened when people got separated and did not understand one another, until Pentecost
Thanks

What is a Speaking Tongues?
Is it necessary to speak in tongues in our times?
Depends where you ask. If you asked in some Baptist group vs say Assemble of God it would no vs yes. No just start googling it and you will end up more confused then when you started. Now if it was me I would search study the word of God about tongues you will find it was not just speaking in different world languages "For one who speaks in an unknown tongue does not speak to people but to God; for no one understands him or catches his meaning, but by the Spirit he speaks mysteries [secret truths, hidden things]. " Read Luke 11:13.

See when I share talk I only share talk what I know and have experienced. Read Acts 19 "he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit. And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?” So they said, “Into John’s baptism. Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying."

See this is exactly what happened to me when I was about 15. Short is in a bible study ask me if I wanted the holy Spirit I said yes. I had no clue what the holy Spirit really was but man I take everything God gives. So sat in this chair and he read only verses never anything else then asked again if I wanted it I said yes. He prays one of the shortest prayers I have ever heard then just stops says that's it you got it. See they believed the word of God. Read Luke 11;13. How many of us just believe Gods word no matter what we see or hear or feel? So I got up and no one said a word I go to sit down and tongues just came out.

Oh I can not express what happened. It was like day and night. Oh Christ said "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

See I am not like most. I can say do not believe me. You seek you study you pray ask Him. Know this ACTS? That is Christianity. So if I believe John 3:16-17 I also believe and asked and received Luke 11:13. See that promise is only for believers. He is real.. He is more real then anyone you know in this world. He lives in you.. so pray ask Him.. know He hears you know He will answer. For me He always back s up what He says by His word.

So is it necessary? Oh more then you know. To know speaking in tongues " does not speak to people but to God;" .. yes all the time.. Oh man praise GOD GLORY GLORY GLORY TO JESUS! The only time I will cap.

Blade, tongues is good, definitely. Pul says they are great. He also says do all speak in tongues, do all prophesy. I would rather you Prophesy than speak in tongues. If Tongues are done as edification, then Yes, by All means yes. Now to speak to God awaredly in a tongue to God between God and you is awesome also, and personal to our growth, and yet the Holy Spirit, prays to God from u to God in a Tongue of God's for us. However, if one just one can be freed from under Law to do Law automatically, not to the letter, rather to the Spirit of God in love to all, no matter how another responds or acts, then God is living in you, me and all others in belief that see Luke 21:14-15, Matthew 10:16-20 just truly Love as God loves in 1 Cor 13:4-7 tells me at least, thanks

Yeah, you edit Scripture as you wish. As for me and my house, we will take notice of the following scripture:

Revelation, Chapter 22:

18For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

The translators who compiled the Word of God known as the King James were Holy Spirit inspired, and, because of that, what they wrote was in accordance with said inspiration.

You want to edit your Bible, go ahead, hey, free will.

‘Tongues’ (read, *‘languages’* ) – the divine gift, is the God given ability to effortlessly learn to speak and be understood through real-language barriers. It is not xenoglossy (as many people incorrectly assume), nor is it the self-created non-cognitive non-language utterance of modern tongues-speech.

What is a Speaking Tongues?
Is it necessary to speak in tongues in our times?

You will hear much on this topic, some biblical, some unbiblical

Biblical:
  • Gift of the Holy Spirit 1cor chapter 12 to 14
  • For the body of Christ 1cor chapter 12, 13, 14 and Eph 4:11 mark chapter 16
  • The gifts are for today and distributed as the Holy Spirit desires 1coe 12
  • they are to be desired 1cor 12 & 14 chapters

Unbiblical :
  • They have ceased when the bible was put together. Nothing says that in scripture
  • 1cor chapter 13 8-10 doesn't say the gifts have ceased.
  • Secular linguists do not understand the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are not authoritative because they know languages.
  • The term modern tongues is not found in the bible. It is a secular term.
