Specific Religion

Good morning. I seek understanding and I pray that I do not offend anyone. My question is, regarding the Baptist religion, is it true that this particular religion holds back from informing the people who belong to this religion all of the information about the Bible says. Because I know some people who claim the Baptist religion to say "I know enough and that is enough" just to the point of being saved by belief in the death and resurrection of Christ. And in this, many of them have not even read the entire Bible through and through and if attending a sermon at a church that does not claim to be of any certain religion except that of being a Christian when in the message it is a lecture prompting conviction to a person for issues that may be apparent in themselves then decide that at this point they do not like the church because it is a lecture.

My belief is that this is what church is about. To remind us of the ways that we should live and to try to live betters lives when repenting of the sin that should be dealt with.

I actually refer more to a First Baptist. which is one of my local churches. I actually go to a nondenominational church Living Hope Church. I love my church and I go Sunday and Wednesday and we do a lot for the children and also things for the community working for the LORD to bring people to Jesus



Also I study my Bible daily and also seek other literature about the Bible and Jesus. I guess that I feel that I have decided to follow Jesus and that I have grown to love Him so much that I constantly hunger and thirst for more and more of Him everyday.


So I have heard it said that a Baptist church would actually inform the members that there is no need to seek any further that what is "of" or "in" the church, that in doing so this is not good for a person and may cause disruption in their lives.

I am confused because in the Bible we are told to spend time with God always, so in doing to I myself meditate daily on the Word of God and I know a person who doesn't think it is necessary or maybe even allowed.

NO......and there are numerous flavors of BAPTIST.....

I was raised Missionary Baptist and we are taught (in the church I grew up in) to study the word from Genesis to Revelation....and too be frank....I know many preachers in numerous states and countries and they ALL teach their people to STUDY for themselves, not take what they say for granted and that each of us will be held accountable for the word of God and that ignorance of it is no excuse....

Having said that....I will also say that through study I have found a few doctrinal truths that I disagree with that was taught at the church I grew up in.....not concerning salvation, but the end of the age , bride of Christ and a few other "traditions" that are embraced as biblical.....

Well.....I can only answer to what I know and who I know......of the many flavors of Baptists (so called) I cannot answer to what they do or teach......and the ones I know do not push or teach the tings you are concerned with.......

You have a very serious misunderstanding about Baptists. There is no such thing as a "Baptist religion". There are many different kinds of Baptists, but most of them seek to teaching Bible Christianity (more or less). Westboro Baptist Church is another matter entirely. They belong to a lunatic fringe. If you have run into a Baptist church that teaches that the whole Bible should not be studied, then that would be very unusual. At the same time most evangelical and fundamentalist churches do not spend enough time in studying the Old Testament.

I attend a SBC Missionary Baptist church. Our entire program is based on complete study of the entire Bible. It is done verse by verse, one book at a time. Our pastor preaches through the Bible in the same way. He completed Genesis last October, and he began a study of Revelations in November. He began chapter 2 last Sunday.

I can say without reservation that our focus in on God's word, and taking His word to our community and to the world.

If you are concerned about what you perceive your church is teaching, take it to to the Lord. He will guide you to a proper conclusion. Also ask your pastor for help and to pray with you.

Totally agree........I love the O.T.........many wonderful gems of truth to be dug up......and in my view....to fully comprehend the NEW one must have a solid foundation in the OLD.......

no need 'to try and identify' with anything other, just submit and follow The Holy Spirit's guidance...
it's just a matter of 'holding hands with your Creator'...

Any doctrine that advises you not to read all or part of the Bible is a false doctrine- run away from it. The Bible says “Study to show thyself approved onto God.” And “They studied the scriptures daily to see if what the apostles said was true.” God gave us the Bible because He wants us to read it- all of us.

Are there any perfect people? So would there be any perfect churches?

Just be grateful, even over joyed that you can own your own bible and read it for yourself. Once this was not the case, and many died so we could own our own bibles.

What more do you need, just enjoy your fellowship, and leave it there.

Baptist churches are very varied in their style and even doctrine.. There is more variety under the ""baptist"" heading then any other denomination.. There is no central human authority in that denomination, no pope so you can go to 3 different baptist churches and experience 3 different things..

And as for you comment about Baptists not reading the Bible right through.. Sadly most Christians have never read the Holy Bible right through.. That is the case in probably all denominations..

Baptist is just a denomination of Christianity. Not a religion.
Chances are that whoever spoke to you has a dislike for Baptist teachings and gave an exaggerated explanation to paint them in a bad light. We see this behavior all the time in the BDF.

There are over 50 Baptist conventions/ conferences in the US and thousands of independent Baptist churches. Other than believer’s baptism, they are varied in every aspect - worship, theology, polity, membership and so on. In Canada, we have 5 different conventions and more independent churches!

As a Baptist, I put the highest priority in not just reading the Bible, but studying it, memorizing and obeying it. I have read the Bible over 50 times from cover to cover, in English, French, the NT in Greek and books of the OT in Hebrew. I’m just reading through the Bible in German.

I also have studied at seminary, as God called me to learn and study the Bible more. I believe a Christian who is not reading the Bible, is a Christian who is not growing, no matter what denomination.
