"He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."

There is a lot of "letter of the law" around here.
I see a lot of cherry picking of scripture to prop up one persons doctrine or the other. When you take the New Testament in its entirety its about freedom in christ and mercy and grace. Too many trying to take the splinter out of other people's eye.

Its just that some are saying that because GOD doesn't change then what he said should be done and they don't think about not being able to fulfill the law by themselves because when the law was given by Moses,JESUS had not come to earth yet, but they should know that there is an old covenant and there is a new covenant and some people think that they should keep the ten commandments and out of the same mouth they say they also believe in GODs grace

what i am saying is that you can't mix the two,its either all you or all CHRIST.

Yup. What I see is people seem to have this innate desire to change others to their way of thinking.... or to just change them period..... instead of changing their own way of thinking... to Gods way of thinking. It's a comfort, significance, value thing. We just want to be important and it manifests itself in a variety of ways....including cherry picking scripture to "enhance" ones value in the kingdom of Jesus. Kind of a....hey Jesus...can I sit at your right kind of thing.

You might also note that there is no "letter of the law" or "spirit of the law" in the text,
although this notion is popular throughout our entire society.

There is only "the letter" and "the spirit."
The letter = the law.
The spirit = the Holy Spirit.

2Co 3:6 does not mean that the external, literal sense of Scripture (the law),
or obedience to the external, literal sense of it, are deadly (kills) or unprofitable;
while the inner spiritual sense of Scripture, or our inner attitude, are
vital (life-giving). Paul is not saying that the letter and the spirit of the law are
distinct, different or opposed.

"The letter" means the law as an external standard before which all people stand guilty
and condemned to death
(kills) because they are law breakers, which is why the letter is
"the ministry that brought death" and "the ministry that condemns" (3:9).

On the other hand, the spirit that gives life means the "Spirit of the living God (not our
inner attitude, or some inner spiritual sense of the words), which Spirit writes that same
law (the letter) inwardly "on tablets of human hearts," in fulfillment of the promise of the
covenant (Jer 31:31-34).

"The spirit" means the law as internally written on our hearts.
The letter and the Spirit are both the law. Writing the law on our hearts
is the Holy Spirit providing the believer with love for God's law (the letter),
which previously he had not possessed, as well as with the power to keep it,
also which previously he had not possessed.

The verse does not pit inner attitude against outward obedience, or "inner leading"
against God's Word written, as many are wont to interpret and apply it.
The verse pits an inability to obey the standard (resulting in death) against
an ability to obey
the standard (resulting in life).

There is no "letter of the law," nor "spirit of the law," nor "dead letter" in Scripture.
The notion of an obedience to "the letter of the law" which is not an obedience to
"the spirit of the law" is a notion not found in Scripture. According to Scripture,
"the spirit" is the Holy Spirit, and "the letter" is the law.
To obey the letter is to obey the Spirit.

Christ condemned the Pharisees (Mt 23:25-28) for not keeping the letter (the law),
for their disobedience (e.g., Mt 15:3-9, 23:1-7, 23-24; Lk 20:46-47).
He did not condemn their hearts in spite of their obedience to the letter (hypocrisy (Mt 15:8-9),
but condemned their hearts for lack of obedience to the letter, for specific disobedience to
the letter (Is 1:17; 3:14-15, 10:1-2, 29:13; Zec 7:4-12). They were hypocrites, not because
they obeyed the letter while failing to obey the spirit, but because they disobeyed the letter (the law)
while pretending to be just and upright.

Christ's condemnation was always for not obeying the letter (the law).

The law (letter) of circumcision in the OT required both an external circumcision and
an internal circumcision (Dt 10:16; Jer 4:4, 9:26; Eze 44:9).
It was their disobedience to the law (letter) of internal circumcision which
caused their exile from the land.

he "Spirit" of the Law is the true intent of the Law.

The "letter" of the Law is taking what is written and twisting it.

Messiah followed the Spirit of the Law

The Pharisees followed the Letter. Taking "love you neighbor and saying well that only those who live next to me"

The Messiah scolded them a number of times for this in Scripture, it is so clear.

If you think keeping the 7th day Sabbath and not killing is the letter, you are blind.

This is one of the most profound statements I have read in a long while.

See post #4 above.

Actually, there is no "spirit of the law" or "letter of the law" in the NT.
There is only the spirit (the Holy Spirit) and the letter (the law). (2Co 3:6)

The letter is the Spirit.

wait, a few weeks ago didnt you tell me I was in the flesh for reading and you were in the Spirit when you read?

Isayah 59:21, "As for Me, this is My covenant with them, says Yahweh: My Spirit which is upon you, namely My Word (Instructions) which I have put in your mouth; they will not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your seed, nor from the mouth of your seed's seed, says Yahweh: from this time and forevermore."

John 6:63, "It is the Spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The Words (Instructions) that I speak to you, they are Spirit, and they are life everlasting."

Romans 8:5-8 (ESV), "For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God."

If you are living a blessed life keep living it, but if your wold ever starts crumbling there will always be the law.

Thanks for going to the trouble to look that up, but
in the context of my posts, I am saying no such thing at all.

If you want to pursue that issue, you can do so on that thread.

On this thread, the issue is something else.

See post #4 above.

The letter is the Spirit
.

Yahchanan (John) 14:26, "But the Comforter--the Holy Spirit which Yahweh will send in My Name will teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatever I (Yahshua/Jesus) have said to you."

Yahchanan (John) 6:63, "It is the Spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The Words (Instructions) that I (Yahshua/Jesus) speak to you, they are Spirit, and they are life everlasting."

Yahchanan (John) 12:48, "He who rejects Me, and does not follow My words has One Who judges him. The word that I have spoken, the same will be used to judge him in the last day."

John (Yahchanan) 10:16, "And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to My voice. So there will be one flock, one Shepherd (4166. poimén)."

Messiah taught the proper way to be obedient to Yahweh's Law...

Isayah 42:21, "Yahweh is well-pleased, for His righteousness' sake, to magnify the Law, and make it honorable"

Mattithyah 19:17-21, "But He said to him: Why do you question Me about righteousness? There is only One Who is the standard of perfection, and that is Yahweh; so if you would enter into life, keep the Laws of Yahweh. He then asked Yahshua; Which ones? Yahshua said: You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false testimony. Honor your efather and mother, and; You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The young man said to Him; All these things I have kept from my youth up; what do I yet lack? Yahshua said to him: If you want to come to the perfection of Yahweh, go and sell of what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and you will be walking in Yahweh's ways, and following Me."

Isayah 42:21, "Yahweh is well-pleased, for His righteousness' sake, to magnify the Law, and make it honorable"

Mattithyah 5:21-30, ""You have heard that it was said by the people of ancient times: You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment; But I say to you: Whoever is angry with his brother will be in danger of the judgment! Again, anyone who says; Raca! insulting your brother, will be in danger of the Sanhedrin, but whoever says: Nabel! desiring them to fall away, will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna. Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you; Leave your gift there before the altar, and go first and be reconciled with your brother; then come and offer your gift. Settle a controversy with your accuser quickly, before he gets you into court; or your adversary may deliver you to the judge, the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be put into prison. Truly I say to you: You will never come out of there until you have paid the last penny. You have heard that it was said by the people of ancient times: You shall not commit adultery; But I say to you: Whoever looks on a woman with lust for her, has already committed adultery with her in his heart. So if your right eye causes you to offend; sin, gouge it out and throw it from you! For it is better for you that one of your members perish, than for the whole body to be cast into Gehenna. Or if your right hand causes you to offend, cut it off and throw it from you! For it is better for you that one of your members perish, than for the whole body to be cast into Gehenna."

Revelation 12:17, "And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went to make war with her seed; her seed being those who keep the Laws of Yahweh, and have the testimony of Yahshua Messiah."

Isayah 8:20, "To the Law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."

the pharisees made Sabbath about sitting in a room and staring at a wall

Mattithyah 12:12, "And how much more valuable is a man than a sheep? Therefore, it is Lawful (intent) to do righteousness on the Sabbath."

and Messiah's teaching is in line with the "OT"

Isayah 58:13-14, "If you turn away your foot from breaking the Sabbath: from doing your pleasure; your own business, your own pleasure, on My holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight; the holy day of Yahweh honorable, and will honor Him by not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor engaging in aidle conversation: Then you will find your joy in Yahweh; and I will cause you to ride on the high places of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Yaaqob your father--for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken it."
