I’ve heard people talk about spiritual baptism. I’m not aware of the bible telling us or alluding to a baptism of/by the HS. I’m hoping this discussion will help me to understand how some come to this conclusion and the scriptural support for it.

Let me first give my basic current understanding on the topic and my concerns. My concern is this “spiritual” baptism is being used to replace water baptism and make water baptism of no effect. If it does actually replace water baptism then great, I want to know and understand.

I understand what the transliterated word “baptism” means. I understand that it’s used in various ways. For this discussion, I would like to stick to baptisms role in conversion. I want to understand what the bible tells us about water and "spiritual" baptism.

I do believe there is a spiritual baptism because the bible tells me so. “Baptized with the Holy Spirit” However, baptism with the HS only happened twice and each one was for a very important specific purpose. The first was the beginning of the church on Pentecost and the other was the first Gentile converts. These were directly from God and evident by speaking in tongues.

Please do not use these two to prove "spiritual baptism". I acknowledge this is spiritual baptism. If you believe they were not special situations, then since they are not special you should be able to use the other conversions to prove your point.

Now God has given us His word so we can understand these things. I trust God has chosen the right words to tell us about these things so we can understand. So please use scripture to make your point and tell me how that scripture supports your point.

Matthew 3:11 I baptize you with water for repentance, but after me will come One more powerful
than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Mark 1:7-8 And he began to proclaim: "After me will come One more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals
I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I baptize you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."

Luke 3:1 John answered all of them: "I baptize you with water, but One more powerful than I will come, the
straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

John 1:33 I myself did not know Him, but the One who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The
man on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is He who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’

I guess you didn't read all of my post. I acknowledge that is spiritual baptism because the bible tells me so. However, those verses are looking forward to the outpouring of the HS. When we actually look to see who the bible tells us were actually baptized WITH the HS, it only happened two times and each was a special situation.

Perhaps she was suggesting that being baptized with the Spirit and with fire are distinct things, and not one and the same thing. Also, that there is a difference between being baptized by the Spirit and being baptized with or in the Spirit.

No it did not only happened 2 times, Christ said;

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
Jhn 14:15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
Jhn 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever—
Jhn 14:17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.

Whoever belongs to Christ and does the fathers will receive the Holy Spirit, This is the baptism John the baptizer was talking about;

Mat 3:11 I baptize you with water for repentance, but after me will come One more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

I think you need to understand that there is an indwelling of the Holy Spirit and an infilling of the Holy Spirit -----

One is given when we receive Jesus we are immediately indwelled with the Holy Spirit -----that changes our corrupt human Spirit to a incorruptible Spirit -------

The Infilling of the Holy Spirit is given to someone to do a particular task -----I call it an unction to function an anointing ----it gives the person POWER --The Disciples at Pentecost were indwelled and filled with the Holy Spirit to preform miracles --cast out demons -heal the sick -etc -to speak in languages that the people knew so they could preach the Gospel in different places -----

See here ----verse 3 and 4 ----they received the Holy Spirit and then they were filled with the Holy Spirit ----2 different things

Acts 2 AMP B

The Day of Pentecost
2 When the day of [a]Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place, 2 and suddenly a sound came from heaven like a rushing violent wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 There appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were being distributed [among them], and they rested on each one of them [as each person received the Holy Spirit].

4 And they were all filled [that is, diffused throughout their being] with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other [b]tongues (different languages), as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out [clearly and appropriately].

Who was filled with the Spirit in the Bible?

We learn about the first Spirit-filled man in the Bible in Exodus 35:31 - Bezalel who GOD filled with HIS SPIRIT (ruwach), understanding, wisdom and workmanship to work with his hands for God.

I agree there are differences and to truly understand God's word we need to understand those differences. God used the words He gave us for a reason, so I like to stick to them and not venture to far away.

Yes, when the apostles were infilled with the HS that is what Jesus told them would happen: but you will be baptized WITH the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” We know they received the HS directly from God and it was evident by the speaking in tongues. Jesus called this baptized WITH the HS.

Later in Acts 4 when Peter gets up to speak the bible says: Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them,
It's obvious he wasn't again baptized with the HS so this is something different.

This isn't really where I would like this thread to go but maybe it needs to be said to clear things up.
Now as you mentioned, we do see people getting gifts of the HS for specific, as you say particular task. The way we see them getting those gifts is by the laying of the apostles hands.
Acts 8:18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money,
2 Tim. 1:6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands,

What I'm looking for is someone to explain baptism OF/BY the HS.

I suggest doing some more study on this. Baptized WITH the HS and receiving the HS are two different things.
I think you are the one who is very confused about this matter -----it is not rocket science -----your making it more confusing for yourself than it really is ----

You need to stop confusing yourself and do some simple research

What is the baptism of the Holy Spirit?

The baptism of the Holy Spirit may be defined as that work whereby the Spirit of God places the believer into union with Christ and into union with other believers in the body of Christ at the moment of salvation.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit was predicted by John the Baptist (Mark 1:8) and by Jesus before He ascended to heaven: “For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 1:5). This promise was fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1–4); for the first time, people were permanently indwelt by the Holy Spirit, and the church had begun.

The following facts are necessary to help solidify our understanding of Spirit baptism:

First, 1 Corinthians 12:13 clearly states that all have been baptized, just as all been given the Spirit to drink (the indwelling of the Spirit).

Second, nowhere in Scripture are believers told to be baptized with, in or by the Spirit, or in any sense to seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This indicates that all believers have had this experience.

Third, Ephesians 4:5 seems to refer to Spirit baptism. If this is the case, Spirit baptism is the reality for every believer, just as “one faith” and “one Father” are.

In conclusion, the baptism of the Holy Spirit does two things, 1) it joins us to the body of Christ, and

2) it actualizes our co-crucifixion with Christ. Being in His body means we are risen with Him to newness of life (Romans 6:4).

We should then exercise our spiritual gifts to keep that body functioning properly as stated in the context of 1 Corinthians 12:13. Experiencing the one Spirit baptism serves as the basis for keeping the unity of the church, as in the context of Ephesians 4:5. Being associated with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection through Spirit baptism establishes the basis for our separation from the power of indwelling sin and our walk in newness of life (Romans 6:1-10; Colossians 2:12)

I received the holy spirit by asking for forgiveness of my sins ,forgiving everyone else of their depts, and confessing thay Jesus died for my sins.
I then received the holy spirit. It to look place aug 31 1998.
I knew the very instant I received it that I had been washed clean and all my sins had been forgiven. It was the best feeling I had ever felt having the spirit of God inside of me.I still feel him everytime I pray.

Luke 11

9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

John 13

6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”

7 Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”

8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.”

Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”

9 “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”

10 Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.” 11 For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.

12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

What does 1 Corinthians 12:13 suggest to you?
Great question.
When Paul writes to the Corinthians, he mentions baptism several times. Which one, if any, are not water baptism?
1 Cor. 1:13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
1 Cor. 10:2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,
1 Cor. 12:13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
1 Cor. 15:29 Otherwise, what do people mean by being baptized on behalf of the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized on their behalf?

I suggest people are over simplifying it and don't really understand it.

Of these 3,000 that were added to Christ., the bible tells us they were baptized then were added. Is this water baptism?
Acts 2:41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
