To lead in marriage, we must keep the knowledge of the last two sections in the proper perspective. A marriage is to be between 1 man and 1 woman for the life of your spouse, your life, or divorce allowed Biblically under infidelity (Matthew 5:32), abandonment (1 Corinthians 7:15) or abusive and dangerous marriages. God hates divorce but is seen divorcing the Israelites on multiple occasions due to their sin. A spouse who abuses the other spouse should be taken very seriously and law enforcement should get involved. Get the abused individual out of the house and work on both the abused and abuser within therapy. If this fails, I do believe divorce is appropriate especially when the individual will not receive the help they need, they are essentially abandoning the marriage and living as an unbeliever, by his or her own actions as an abusive spouse.

As leaders within our marriage, it does not mean we must know more than our wife but simply lead the marriage or motivate the marriage into God’s will. We must protect the marriage by defending against what God calls sexual immorality. Sexual immorality is all sexual acts outside of marriage, a marriage between 1 man and 1 woman. Even looking outside of marriage both in vision and mind is considered sinful (Matthew 5:28).

For example, pornography or lust over another women. We are to be content with what we have and be blessed in what we are given. Strive to promote opportunities to help your wife in her own walk of faith. As they say, you truly are married to multiple different people throughout your life. Meaning, we change as individuals throughout our lifetime and to stay equally yoked we must constantly pursue the same spiritual goals.

As men we are to treat our wife as precious or as the finest kitchen dining set. Fragile but precious enough that we protect it and separate it. We understand their value, so we treat them as valuable. Proverbs 31:10 New International Version 10 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.

Understanding your wife's value can be understood in the context of 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. Due to our wife’s value, we strive to be patient, kind, content, to resist selfish pride, to protect her honor, to be self-less, not easily angered, hold no grudges, resists evil, rejoices in truth, always protects, encourages, and motivates to be all that God calls her to be.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Our wives deserve this type of commitment due to their value in the eyes of God. They deserve to be treated as precious.

Discussion Questions:

1. How can having a Biblical view of marriage dictate how you view your wife?

2. In seeing the value of your wife, how will this influence your leadership in the home?
