"The idea of spiritual growth, or spiritual maturity, is closely related to the doctrine of
sanctification. Positional sanctification takes place instantly at the time of salvation
when, having placed their trust in Jesus Christ and His finished work of redemption
alone (i.e. His death, burial, and resurrection), believers are identified with Christ in
God’s sight and “set apart” (i.e. sanctified) according to God’s will and purpose.

Practical sanctification, however, is a process that takes time. As new believers begin
their new life “in Christ” they grow spiritually as they learn God’s Word and properly
apply it to their lives. Having called on believers to “present your bodies a living
sacrifice,” the Apostle Paul explains that this is accomplished through “the renewing
of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will
of God” (Rom. 12:1-2).

The believer’s mind is “renewed” as they put off the values, philosophies, and thought
patterns of the world and replace them with grace thinking which includes a new
values system and pattern of conduct. You see the system by which we think will
set the standard by which we conduct ourselves.

We are admonished to “Let this mind [way of thinking] be in you which was also in
Christ Jesus” (Phil. 2:5). The point Paul is making is that Christ gave Himself wholly
to do the Father’s will and so should we. True spiritual growth is marked, not by how
much Scripture we know or how precisely we have honed our doctrine, but rather by
how much we actually apply the Word of God, rightly divided, to our own life.

Another way to put it is that the more we learn to trust God, and reflect that trust in
every aspect of our life, the more spiritually mature we are. The evidence of spiritual
maturity is not simply knowledge of the Scriptures, but the demonstration of that
knowledge through love (see 1 Cor. 13:1-13; Eph. 3:16-19; 4:15-16; 5:1-2; Phil. 2:1-4).

The knowledge of Christ’s love for us should cause us to love Him in such a way that
it is demonstrated in our attitude, conduct, and commitment to serve God. Spiritual
maturity is marked by spiritual knowledge being put into action."

I think the Bible put it better with the whole fruit of the Spirit thing.

Maturity is one thing, purity is completely another.

Possibly, but doubtful it is 'completely' separate seeing maturity as the scope of the NT defines it, I will say from poisoinal experience, purity must rely on the power, or it falls to deception.

Purity has to do with cleansing from inbred or indwelling sin. Maturity has to do with growing in virtue or fruit of the Spirit. The first is an instantaneous act of the Holy Spirit, the second is a growth over a period of time.
 
The fruit of the Holy Spirit in one's life indicates the believer has reached maturity and is ready to give to others.

Like a tree, it grows, it's trained, it's pruned, it's watered and manured. It goes through the seasons, the wood gets hardened, it grows taller and reachers for the light. But to bear fruit, several things need to happen. If it has blossoms there needs to be pollination - by insects/bees or the wind. Then the fruit needs to set, and then ripen.

And someone needs to harvest them at the right time, otherwise if left on the tree all the birds will get them, or they will fall on the ground and rot.

It's very simple, but people I guess like to complicate things....?

When you find weeds in your garden, choking your plants, you do not grow then out, but rather pull them out that the plants may grow.
Likewise, we don't grow sin out of our lives, but rather, 'crucify the old man', ' destroy the body of sin' Rom 6:6.'Crucify the flesh' Gal 5:24.
Heart purity comes not by growth but by putting sin to death by the Holy Spirit, then we can grow in grace.

Well the post was about maturity, not purity, so I was referencing that.

A fully grown tree that's fruiting has reached maturity ...it's no longer a seedling or a sapling. It would have long since shaded out the weeds.

Yes weeding is important as is preparing the soil, but I'm talking about looking after the tree so it can produce the best fruit. You are no longer in the nursery Mr Aussie52.

No its just theres a difference between someone who drinks milk and someone who can eat meat.
One is a babe, the other is a grown up.

I'm sorry I kind of assumed you were a grown up and knew about the fruits of the holy spirit! If you don't then best get reading, esp Galatians.

How old are you?
I mean....how many years you been a Christian?

Have you been baptised? I mean thats just the start of a new life in Christ. Keep persevering, and you'll reap what you sow.

It won't happen overnight. It may take a long time. Feed on the word everyday. Have patience.

I usually address the topic of the OP first before I start replying to everyone else and I'm not always the first to respond so thats why I thought we were discussing MATURITY.
