I was never able to find the original post for this, but Misty, I'm so happy that things have turned out well for you and your son! Praising God with you today! Being able to do what is best for him educationally is HUGE also. This is wonderful news!!
 
Back from the rehearsal. Now it's soon to be girl's night where we paint our nails, watch a chick flick, and eat junk food.

Yippee.
 
My daughters and I are going on a cruise in a week. So naturally, we plan to watch as many cruise disaster movies as we can before then. Poseidon tomorrow. Possibly then Speed 2. Anyone know of any others?

Titanic might be ok if you won't be near icebergs..

I would absolutely love a wooden studio built as a tree house where I can spend time writing and illustrating my own children's books. So.... my birthday is in December.... just saying....

I am 25 years old now. And I remember between the ages of 16-22 years were times of huge reflection and scrutiny of my identity and direction in life, etc. When I hit, 18, or 20, or even 21 years of age, I was expecting this big level up in life that I never got. I woke up to another birthday and another age milestone only to feel the same. I was a bit more experienced in life and learnt from many mistakes, but from my experience, rolling out of the teens in to the twenties didn't offer much. I was still me, and I wondered why I made a big deal of age and expectations that came with certain age.

The age factor didn't phase me too much, but looking back, I was very harsh on myself. My mistakes would make any normal person blush and feel very uncomfortable. I learnt so much the hard way, and had to go around and around the same problem before even the slightest hint of a way out would make itself apparent to me.

But you know, I've finally realised, I am so not alone in the mistakes and hard trials I've had to go through. People all over the world go through the same things, think the same way, beat themselves about it as well (Not that this is a good thing). I thought I was some how special in how horrible of a mess I made with my life, but that's not true. We are called to move from glory to glory, and it's okay to be in a process.

Giving myself permission to be in a process is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I felt like I had to have it all together by some point. But then, I realised, the only way I can truly be built in to the woman God has called to be, is to go through it all, with Him, at all different paces of life. Some times I'm stubborn and it takes longer. He didn't say His mercy and loving-kindness endures forever for no reason.

I thank God He is God and He has all that never-ending patience. Because, I can tell you right now, I've given Him, and many people around me a hard time, but in all the messiness, He is doing something wonderful in us and around us that will result in bringing Him glory.
 
I have never cared for Titanic. But I did enjoy another decidedly female-orientated movie - Cinderella.
I saw it early in the week with a few friends.

First, I’ll begin with the short film prior to the movie Frozen Fever. It was good, but not great. Fun like “Frozen”, but not near the levels of Tangled.

Now onto Cinderella. For the genre it belonged to, the movie was very good, just different from my usual fare. The stakes were low and the story was far more gentle than I’m used to. That said, I enjoy a good Disney movie, but I’m not one for Disney ‘princesses’. I enjoy fairytales too, but have been more exposed to the dark, complicated retellings of late eg. Once Upon A Time.

Although there was a slow start to the story, and I don’t feel young Ella was a strong actress, I really enjoyed the rest of the movie. It was a beautiful, lavish production, lovingly directed and written. Thoroughly Germanic and yet, otherworldly. No cynical modern bull. Instead, here was a story full of ‘wonder’, as befits a fairytale.

While, there were no crazy subplots or plot twists, there was present, a rich simplicity and dramatic depth rarely found in such stories. I didn’t find the message to be superficial, materialistic or self-seeking. Huzzah! The message was like Ella herself, compassionate, redemptive and it 'served' the story. Speaking of Ella, it was good to see she wasn’t a dull, walking story point. She was intriguing; a character that could hold her own, if need be, but had a genuine goodness surrounding her, integrity that was palpable. She always chose to love, serve and forgive those who persecuted her.

The movie was fun and the acting rather good. Thankfully the Prince was more than just a pretty face, he seemed to be a top bloke. Finally, the ever-wonderful Cate Blanchett was brilliant as the Step-Mother and her daughters were delightfully spoilt brats. You can tell everyone was passionate about the story.

All in all, Cinderella wasn’t my usual cup of tea, but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
Highly recommended for everyone who has a kid living inside them.

Warning: Not for children. May contain uh... mild kissing? Oh, never mind.

Wikipedia's list of disaster movies involving ships. If you open yourselves up to movies like "Open Water" and others involving scary creatures of the deep, you have many more options. :o
