I look up to the mountains--does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!
Psalm 121:1, 2 (NLT)

My father once said that it is okay to ask a question to yourself. But if you answer the question you asked yourself, something may be wrong with you. Despite my father's statement, the psalmist who wrote Psalm 121 had nothing wrong with him. In fact, the psalmist was in his right mind and heart.

In verse 1, the psalmist asks an interesting question: Does my help come from the mountains? With its grandeur and beauty, one might think that strength would indeed come from a mountain's majestic peak. But, for all practical purposes, strength does not come from a physical structure. Instead, strength comes from the One who created the mountains. As the psalmist answers his own question in verse 2: My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

I have found that God gives us not only physical strength, but also mental, emotional, and spiritual strength. The Christian life can be an exhilirating journey, but sometimes, we get tired and weary. That is why we need to look to the Lord to give us strength so we will not give up when the going gets tough.
