Our Father who art in heaven, thy kingdom come, thy will be done
Hebrews 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
We were taught to pray "thy will be done" by the Lord Jesus. This is God's will that we would be sanctified through the offering of the Body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
The point of being sanctified is that we become the Lord's servants, we become His army, and we are brining in the kingdom and his enemies are being made into His footstool. So then who is the Lord's enemy? The word is "Satan" and the reason he is the Lord's enemy is he tried to steal the Lord's people and make them slaves of sin. To be made sanctified means you have been freed from the bondage of sin so that you could serve the living God. To make the Lord's enemy His footstool means that those who are freed in turn help lead others to Jesus Christ so that they also could be freed. The Lord is sitting in the heavens because He doesn't need to be crucified again and again, He did it once for all.
15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, 16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
Jesus dealing with sin once for all is only half of the equation, the other half of the equation is that we have a new heart with the laws of God written in our hearts and mind. Think about marriage, that is a covenant. Forgiving your spouse for sinning against you is only half of the equation, the other half is that they truly love you in their heart and mind. The Old Testament told us God would do both, and that was proof positive He was going to replace the Jewish religion with a new covenant.
18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
Remission of sins means to be released from bondage. In the Old Testament if you sinned you paid for that by being a slave to pay off that debt. Jesus told us in the gospels that He was shedding His blood to pay that debt for us so that we could be released from that debt (Matthew 26:28). You go to court, you pay the fine, that is it, there is nothing more that you need to do. Once that debt has been paid the one who held that note has no more claim on you.
19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
What Jesus did when He died was to consecrate a new and living way for us to enter back into the court in heaven and ask for the treasures hidden in the ark of the covenant. He has the manna in the golden pot, it is like a treasure chest of gold, words for each situation. He has also has Aaron's budded rod, the resurrection power which confers authority on you, and the ten commandments which are the expression of the invisible God.
21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
And not only so we have a high priest, a coach, a mentor, someone that can guide us in the path that we are to go even in the fiercest fight.
22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
The door is open, so then let us draw near.
23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised
We have a faithful God in the heavens backing us up, so then hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering.
24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Jesus is considering us to provoke us to love and good works, so then let us do the same. Let us consider our brothers and sisters to provoke them to love and good works. If you consider what this is saying you would see that those who preach "once saved always saved" and condemn those who provoke their brothers and sisters to love and to do good works as "preaching a works salvation" are truly of the devil. They are taking the assurance of salvation by Jesus shedding His blood for the remission of our sins, and turning it into a basis to condemn those who would desire to do likewise. Telling a lie that is based on the truth is the most effective. Yes, we can have the assurance of salvation, but no, provoking one another to love and good works is not preaching a works salvation. instead it is preaching that the proof of God's laws being written on your heart and mind is that you do the things that Jesus said to do, and in the parable of the good samaritan He told us to "go and do likewise".
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
The manner of some who condemn religion is to forsake the assembling of ourselves together. We have just shown that the Jewish religion is a shadow of the real thing. Is it a shadow? Yes. Is it like a Legos model of the real temple in the heavens? Yes. But we are not forsaking the shadow to forsake the real thing. We are forsaking the shadow so that we might enter into the real thing.
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
This is very powerful statement. To sin willfully is to weigh the covenant with God and compare that to the pleasure of sin and to then choose sin. Before we didn't know what the real covenant was, we were comparing a shadow with the pleasures of sin. But once you have actually known the real thing, to then decide I don't want to meet with the saints, I am not interested in good works motivated by love, not going to hold fast the profession of faith in the face of opposition, I don't draw near to God, I don't care about having a high priest, and I don't care that the Lord has opened a new and living way for me. If you reject this new and living way there is no more sacrifice for sins. Jesus is not going to be crucified again, and the bulls and goats that used to be sacrificed have all been done away.
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
You have no way to deal with your sins and the day of judgement gets one day closer every day. When the Day of the Lord arrives you are going to be found on the wrong side of the battle lines.
28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
