"Trying to equate 10 virgins with believers does not work, you have 12 apostles, 12 tribes of Israel and 12 gates to the New Jerusalem. The number 12 can be equated to the believers, not 10"

Core Meanings of Number 10

  • Divine Order and Completeness: It represents a complete cycle or the full measure of God's purpose. Scholars note it combines 4 (the number of physical creation) and 6 (the number of man).
  • Law and Accountability: It marks the standard by which God holds humans responsible, such as through moral codes and testing
  • Generations: There are ten generations from Adam to Noah, and another ten from Noah to Abraham.

Interesting how God knew to use 10 instead of 12.
Jesus is teaching that half are taken and half left behind.
  • So "6" would have been improper.

  • 5 represents grace.
  • The Fivefold Ministry: Ephesians 4:11 outlines five ministerial gifts given to the church: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers.
  • So Jesus uses 5 concerning grace and the church.
This makes no sense. Jesus is teaching that half are taken and half left behind? Really, the third parable teaches that two people were faithful to invest the Lord's talents while one wasn't and was wicked and lazy. So is it one third left, one half left, which is it that the Lord is teaching?

However, if you take all three parables together as one story about the judgement of the believers you get 1/2 x 1/2 x 2/3 = 2/12

Wow, 2 of the 12 spies (Joshua and Caleb) entered the good land, ten did not enter.

Another way to look at this, half of all Christian pastors are teaching that the Lord delays his coming and are beating anyone who teaches on the prophecies telling them "no one knows the day or hour" and calling them false prophets. Then of those who were "watchman" proclaiming that Jesus was coming and the prophecies were fulfilled, half of them have run out of oil. They were excited early on but have since run out of gas. That leaves 3/12, these are the ones in the church who saw the Lord was coming, and that had a torch that did not run out of oil. But one of those three keeps silent, he hides his talent in the dirt because he doesn't want to be accused of being a false prophet. He was scared.

The Noah analogy is Jesus in the ark with the seven, the church.

The parable fits with a Galilean wedding practices and should be understood based on that practice.

Prior to this parable there are three people, two are faithfully watching for the Lord, while the third is evil and beats them saying the Lord delays His coming. This is not about one third of the church being evil and two thirds not, it is about those who are put in charge of feeding the believers in the church at the appropriate time. The parable after this is about a King who went into a far country and left his servants with talents for them to invest. Two of them invested, one didn't. This one who didn't was called lazy and wicked. Once again this doesn't mean that two thirds of the church are investing and one third is lazy, it is a reference not to the church but to the accountability of each and every believer. These are three parables about serving the Lord, none of them are about "the church" as a whole, but rather about individual accountability before the Lord.
You really think all that erases the virgin parable?
Jesus comes and takes the bride to heaven IN THE PARABLE.
HALF are taken.
I didn't originate that. The Parable originates it.

Prior to that, Jesus teaches again that half are taken in the Noah analogy.

Yet NOWHERE is half taken in Noah's day.
Not half of anything taken.

Nowhere in the rapture is 8 saved and the earth depopulated.

So there is a separation of components.
I have to go with the components that APPLY....not incorporate what can not possibly apply.

How many virgins stay?
How many are left behind?
Who declares it?
Me, or the Bible?

Just a few sentences earlier Jesus declares one taken and one left behind at the rapture.

The Bible says it.
Not me.

I do not care if that is what you want to believe. Fine, you believe there are ten brides, half get to go into the wedding and half don't. I am not interested in arguing about the interpretation of a parable. I have laid out the many correlations between this parable and the rest of the Bible, particularly with Feast of Trumpets right up to Day of Atonement.

I have also pointed out how 10 is never associated with the church in the New Testament, nor is it associated with a complete number of believers.

You disagree. Fine. Go start your own blog.

I was raised on Darby and Watchman Nee's teaching on this so I have heard your standard interpretation for more than 40 years. But anyone who is honest knows it doesn't fit.

I am only reporting what is there.
Half taken.
It is eternally cannonized.
5 taken.
5 is the number of grace

Half taken.
Jesus declared it twice in the same breath.
How do you not understand that there are different functions, different gifts? Are all pastors? Do all teach the word of God each week to the congregation? Why would someone who is not a pastor be given the same judgement as one who is? Some people are in the gospel field, some are grinding the word of God into flour for bread, some are lighting the way to the wedding feast, some are investing the talents given to them. If you are not a pastor you can argue "hey, that wasn't me who taught that to the church". Fine, but what about what you said on Facebook or on this forum? Some can argue they aren't gifted teachers, OK, but how did you invest the gift that you do have?

OK, why not report that when the Lord returns everyone has to give an account, two share how the talents the Lord gave them resulted in more talents and He said well done enter into the joy of your Lord, and one didn't invest the talents and the Lord rebuked him, cast him out, and gave his talent to the one who had ten.? 2/3 taken, 1/3 cast out. It is eternally cannonized. Just reporting what is there.

The Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval

There is some dispute over this sister, whether or not she is truly a prophet of God. There are several strategies for discerning this, and one of them is the following

Acts 5:34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space; 35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men. 36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought. 37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed. 38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: 39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

Gamaliel compares Peter and the other apostles to Theudas and Judas, two men who boasted they were something and drew men after them. Just like those two men the Apostles claim they are are apostles of Jesus and they draw men after them raising up churches. So neither of those things is proof that you are a false prophet or not.

In the same way this sister claims she is one of the two end time witnesses.

So Gamaliel gives us a strategy on how to discern. He points out both of the false prophets were slain and their ministry came to nothing. If someone claims they are "an apostle of the Lord Jesus" then it is up to Jesus to either confirm that or debunk that. For example, if I knock on your door and say I am with the power company and need to see your meter you could call the power company and they would either confirm or debunk my claim. If I am not an employee of their company it would be their job to call the police and make sure I am apprehended.

From the moment this sister began claiming to have a message from various angels including Gabriel and from Jesus as well, the attack on this sister has been withering. As soon as I heard her say this I knew she would come under intense attack and so I was interested to see if she would perish or not. She hasn't perished and instead has grown more and more prolific. She is now regularly referring to current events that have taken place that she had prophesied would take place months and years ago.

The other thing I observed is her messages are truly unique. Anyone can repackage old sermons, messages, prophetic speakings, etc. She doesn't do that, her speaking is truly unique. It is as though she is on a high wire during a hurricane. So it is all the more remarkable that she has not perished.

Anyway, there are several ways to discern the speaking.

1. Does it cause you to draw closer to a relationship with the Lord Jesus or does it cause you to question that relationship?

2. Does the ministry make money off of people and create your own denomination? Be careful, just because a ministry takes donations does not make it false, however, every false prophet will make donations to their ministry a cornerstone. So a lack of an attempt to make merchandise of those who are listening is proof they are not a false prophet. That does not mean they are not in error, even genuine believers like Apollos can teach in error. However, if they are creating a denomination then yes, that is clearly a false prophet. But again. be careful, just about all Christians are meeting in congregations that are "denominations". The act of denominating sets in motion seminaries, and ways to judge other believers as "not having the full truth". So my point is that when you use these criteria it is highly likely that you will be condemning yourself. Before you can condemn others you must first deal with your own standing with the Lord.

3. It there is an intense attack around the ministry. A genuine ministry like that of the apostles will cause the religious leaders to become indignant and want to destroy the ministry, just as this chapter describes. Again, there should also be an intense attack over false prophets (Mormons, Jehovah witnesses, Jim Jones, etc). An intense attack let's you know it is either or. So having an intense attack is not the issue, the issue is who is doing the attacking? If it is John the Baptist calling the religious leaders "a brood of vipers" then that is the ministry that is of God. On the other hand if it is a tribunal of all the leaders of the various churches being indignant and wanting to destroy a ministry then that should be seen as the "good housekeeping seal of approval" on a ministry.

Please note that I did not use "prophecy being fulfilled" as a way to discern. Take Joshua a year ago who made a prophecy that clearly was not fulfilled. The Bible says when you see someone like that you don't need to fear them. You don't need to stone them. They might be an immature believer or they might be an immature false prophet, but either way they are not dangerous.

On the other hand the Bible says if someone teaches you to abandon God and they do signs and wonders that person you are to stone, they are dangerous. God is allowing the signs and wonders to test you. What is far more important at discerning the prophet is whether or not they are leading you to take up your cross and follow Jesus.
