That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed
Luke 1:1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, 2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; 3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, 4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.
The Bible is the more sure word of prophecy.
This word translated "certainty" is used three times in the New Testament. This is the first use. The second is also by Luke in the book of Acts, the prison was shut up with all "safety", the same word that we are translating as certainty here. The final example is by Paul in 1 Thessalonians "when they say peace and safety". Again, the word translated "safety" is the word here for certainty. The word means certainty, undoubted proof, security from enemies and danger, hence safety.
The Bible is the undoubted truth, when Antichrist tells you that he has the undoubted truth you should know it is a trap, a snare.
Security from enemies and danger
Psalm 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
We need to abide under the shadow of the almighty, we don't visit, we abide. That is the most secure place from enemies and danger.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. You abide in Jesus Christ, the incarnated word of God and your faith and trust in God will grow. If you trust in Him He will be your refuge and your fortress.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
This is the prerequisite in order to be delivered from the snare of the fowler. Many say they don't believe in witchcraft, but surely they do believe in the Bible and according to the Bible there are fowlers out there laying snares for us. So if you don't want to talk about witches, lets talk about someone laying a snare for you. Abide in the word, abide in the Lord, put your trust in Him and He shall deliver you from the snares that these fowlers are laying.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
As a rule we want to be hidden beneath the Lord's wings. You don't want to attract the attention of the fowlers and those in witchcraft. We can be hidden under the Lord's wings so that the enemy cannot touch us and His truth shall be our shield and buckler (a buckler is small shield to protect your hand that is on your sword).
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
Pray in the name of Jesus Christ and this destruction would be nullified and cancelled by Him and His blood would dissolve all the snares that have been laid for you. During the pandemic we witnessed how terrified so many people are, that is why they were driving in their car alone with a mask on. These people living in big cities with gang violence, they are terrified of the terror by night and for the arrow that flieth by the day. So many things to be scared of, AI taking your job, gangs taking your kids, pandemic taking your life, etc.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Pray in the name of Jesus Christ, the righteous judge that you would see the reward of the wicked. Pray your eyes would be opened to see what has caused this cloud of oppression. It won't touch us but the Lord wants us to see it so that we are not naive. We can pray more effectively when we can clearly see the enemy working.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
If you make the Lord your habitation then He gets to clean house. There may be abominable things in your house that the Holy Spirit takes issue with. When I first got saved I realized my record albums were idolatrous and I burned them all. It isn't because we are the ones on guard 24 hours a day that no evil befalls us, it is because of the Lord. Demons, witches, fallen angels, they cannot enter that refuge, as long as you are within that refuge they can't touch you.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. 13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Pray to tread upon the lion that seeks whom he may devour and that the dragon would be under your feet, in the name of Jesus Christ, the one who conquered death and put Satan to an open shame. The Lord will give His "angels" charge over thee, that is plural. If you are on the front lines of the spiritual warfare then you can be sure He will appoint enough angels to keep guard. If you attract the attention of those in witchcraft the Lord will appoint enough security to keep you safe. I have had at least five experiences that stand out where the Angels stepped in to keep me from dashing my foot against a stone.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
Jesus Christ is Lord, call on His name, you know His name, at His name demons must flee. How does the Lord know that you have set your love upon Him? Because you are willingly suffering shame and reproach for the name of Jesus.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
This is the goal, that when we pray the Lord answers. That is how He honors us. If you get to this point where you have effective prayers like Elijah who held back the rain for 3 1/2 years, then, in my opinion that is the pinnacle of the Christian life filled with amazing experiences of answered prayer.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
So then pray that the Lord will show you His salvation because all of this is His salvation.
And that is what Luke means when he says "that thou mightest know the certainty of these things".
