It's not perfect and is unjust, but is that worse than living under sharia law?
They have promised that they will respect people personal freedom. Until now they have kept their promise so will see when something changes even many sunnis will speak up cause even they don't want sharia law. Many sunnis in Syria are moderate, they don't wear hijab, they support woman's role in society and they are open minded so many won't accept but a society that is including

The Lord's plan to redeem His creation is going forward, it is a spiritual war between His good and the adversaries evil, who only come to steal, kill and destroy. There will be no peace until the Prince of Peace returns.
Praying for the peace of Jerusalem

Blessings

What I am very sure about is that Assad never protected us. As matter of fact he had very evil mechanisms to make people think that they are been protected by him when every minority group knows that he was trying to diminish their roles in the Syrian society. When it comes to Christians many attacks against Christians were by Assad or because of him. He wanted always to make it about terrorists and him protecting people from terrorists where there were civilians getting killed just because they opposed him. And he tried to show that minorities are on his side when everybody knows that many Christians left cause we didn't want to be part of killing or to be killed. So just that many Christians were silent didn't mean that they were happy with Assad.
OK well this helps me understand your perspective, which is different from mine. I understand and sympathize with your concerns. I have been looking at it from the viewpoint of the western colonial powers trying to destroy Syria with proxy Islamists from other countries

That's what the whole war was about - secular rule vs Islamist rule. Now Syria will have to deal with some form of sharia, that's a given. I've read reports of the new rulers telling men and women not to congregate together in public. The jihadis will certainly pretend to be moderate and inclusive in order to secure western funding, but it won't last because violence is their nature. We'll see how it goes.

I get your point now. Foreign intervention is always present in the middle east let us just pray that it would be for the good this time. Cause nobody can deny now that Syria needs other countries' help (mostly politically) cause we have suffered a lot. Just praying that it would be for Syrian's benefits and not for extern propagandas. I support Syria having good relations with the west well (without hidden agendas) cause we don't want to be isolated from the world as we were before.

If the new Syrian gov't is to have any credibility it needs to send the foreign jihadis back to their own countries. But they won't do that because jihad comes first

Maybe I'm just being cynical. What might happen is the west will just move them to new wars like Ukraine. That would be a blessing for Syria

The thing is it was for many people about freedom and having a good life. Some groups started to take advantage of the revolution and fight just because Assad was alawite (minority) and they were sunni (majority) and they wanted the majority to rule and reign.
Much is happening now and everything we hear from the news have some propagande whether it is from secularists or islamists. The thing is in damascus for example things are pretty the same so people are together (male and female) music in cafes and so on. The thing is there could also be some people trying to exaggerate some events. Sometimes hts is denying to have anything to do with such events and they are taking actions (punishment and trying to prevent things from happening again). Who is lying is difficult to know now. But the most important thing is that this won't lead to people fighting again, but that everything would happen in democratic way, if people want to criticize or speak up (Jesus willing).

I understand your concerns. For Syria to a jihadist center is just unlikely. Many people even moderate sunnis won't accept that. People just want to live a good life and they know that Muhammad's teachings are not relevant now. So I have faith in our people that they won't accept whatever. Well I do have some worries that's why prayer from Syrians are much needed now cause it is only God who can affect and change people's hearts.

I'm so glad I can hear an anti-Assad perspective that's not coming from Muslim-brotherhood and jihadi types. Especially one coming from a Christian. This helps me a lot to understand the extreme complexities of the situation

It is very complex and only Jesus can bring restoration.

I believe that Jesus has plans for every nation and I really believe it is now Syria's turn as many are desperate and in need of Jesus (even nominal Christians). Well yes the Lord didn't hide that it would always be chaotic until His return but even if external peace is not granted but His inner peace in our hearts will always be present. Amen praying for every nation (Israel's Jerusalem, the body of Christ everywhere, but also people away from Christ to know Him).
God bless u

For those that don't know, Jolani is the new leader of Syria. He started out with Al Qaeda in Iraq that became ISIS, Then he moved to Syria to fight with Al Nusra (Al Qaeda in Syria), which was later named HTS to create a new image that conformed with the western narrative of moderate rebels. Is this guy Syrian, Iraqi, or other?

Invaders?!!! Are you a believer in Jesus? Cause you don't sound like that to me. So where were we supposed to go when it was very dangerous in our country? Oh I see stay their and get killed. Instead of calling people invaders you can pray for their salvation or maybe you are the one who needs to get saved first.
So because you ruin your own country we should let you invade ours and ruin it too? Nah big pass, fix your own house.
