Literally don't get taken for a ride.

I have acted as a free taxi for someone in dire need though. But I'd think twice if it was a guy even if he was the one wanting to be picked up. Even uber you have to be careful though you have your phone on you and can always report them if they do anything other than take you to your destination.

Thing is, who dates their neighbours? I think a lot of people who date don't even know the person they are dating or meeting up with. How can anyone trust anyone? Even if you meet up in a public place like a library or restaurant, YOU have to be able to get there and back on your own. So you need your own car or rely on public transport.

In some places there IS no public transport, I don't know about restaurants except for places like McDonalds that would be friendly and causal, its a big investment to go somewhere fancy. But thank God for libraries (I used to work in a public library, so I know) however we didn't like it when parents would drop their kids off and use us as free babysitters.

😆😅🤣I hear you.

It seems here in America we have different culture.
Neighbors date, coworkers date, church members date, many end up with life long marriages. Very common.

If people met on internet, locally meet, someone will know someone. Many local eatery reasonable price, people go out to eat all the time anyway, date or no date, still go out to eat, fancy place for rich people, but many affordable places.

Blessings.

We just get takeaway...or some get doordash.

As for church members the ones who did that and married all got divorced. See above!

Yes culture is very different. I didn't even know anyone went on a date when I was growing up, nobody could afford to. You just went to party and hooked up, or you 'went around' with someone at school which just meant you held hands for a week.

Of course the lifelong marriages were those that were born in the post war like post 1945.
Also with life-long mortgages. Actually most are ending now as the elders are becoming widowed.

In Paris...now that's the place to fall in love!
Although...it's probably the place to have an affair as well.
Well anyway it was the only place I actually saw guys buy flowers for their girlfriends.

We are definitely from different world.
In my circle it is very common for co workers to date, church members, college friends....
All married life time, many still alive and on going.

At work, usually not boss type. But young people or similar level people. Regular dates, not for power.

Well good for you
I am in the world but not of it.

So different strokes for different folks.

I wouldn't date a co-worker. I'd keep things professional, its not good to mix business with pleasure. But that's just me. I wouldn't even consider having a lunch break with a co-worker a date. I'm there to work, and I need food!

Plus if you are 50 plus, you do live in a different generation to younger folks. It definitely is not the same for us young ones. College? Forget it. You in debt, you can barely afford to live, let alone own a house.

I have actually met someone online that I travelled to meet. He turned out to be who he was, but he did pay for the entire trip. I didn’t let it go further because he was in the US army and moved about a lot

In general understanding, I think man should make the 1st effort.
Just my opinion. 😄 🤣

huh
I would beware of US Army men

I heard back in the last century, the Yanks dropped by NZ when world war 2 was on, and the NZ men were away. They would come by, stay a while at the army camp, and pick up/seduce the ladies with coca cola and chewing gum (newly invented). Then their NZ boyfriends would come back and find their girlfriends were two-timing them with these American dudes.

There was a saying that these US Army men were "overpaid, oversexed, and over here."

I know a true story of us army guy. He fell in love with Korean girl in Korea while war time long ago.
After the war, he actually came back to Korea and married that girl as he promised. His nephew said, many soldiers promised things, but few fulfilled it.

They had grand children long ago, and many her family came to usa because of that promise.
It was a loving story. I kind of know the nephew.

Again, the man made the 1st effort. That's the key.

Did she already have a Korean boyfriend though?

I wonder if that happened in Vietnam as well.

That i don't know that much details. That's 70 years ago, if I understand the culture, most Asian girls at that time would not even hold hands, nor kiss boys unless married.

My mum made the first move, and then stayed in NZ and didn't go back to Hong Kong lol

I'm used to making the first moves on everything, or maybe second moves, seeing I'm the second daughter to my eldest sister. Why would we wait for our younger brothers to do anything in life...when we sisters were born first?

What i meant is in a courtship, the guy will make an effort 1st, such as treat the girl 👧 for a date, come to see the girl....
Guy 👦 pursuit the girl.

But of course many successful stories the girl pursuit the guy first. Such as Ruth proposal to boaz 😄 🤣

Oh well, that's not gonna happen in NZ lol

Guys are cheap here, the first date would be McDonalds or maybe a feed of fish and chips.

I would recommend the local Wendy's though, sitting by the windows, watching the traffic go by.
