On that note though, what if I am the member of a Church that never observes the Lord's Supper, or only once a year? Surely we are to observe it more than that. For the record, I attended an Assemblies of God church that for the 2 years I was there never once did it, and I grew up in a Baptist church that only observed the Lord's Supper once a year, on the Wednesday before Easter, and then only roll members were allowed to partake, so a few years I couldn't observe...

I can understand your frustration with a church such as this/these.............But, I bettcha if you ask around, you will find other believers who are just as frustrated as you.............and it could be that y'all could start a Bible Study Group......if not at the church, then in one of your homes..........and y'all could celebrate Communion anytime you want.

There IS NO STRICT COMMANDMENT as to how often we should celebrate Communion.........as often as you do this is what Jesus said..............

Those who make this a daily/weekly practice.......probably think they are honoring Jesus..........and maybe they are, but the danger is that the celebration becomes nothing more than a "tradition of man," with no sacred/reverent meaning to honor Jesus Christ...........in my opinion...........

That being said, there is NOTHING WRONG with a weekly celebration...........but I would ask.........how many of those folks in those congregations are in violation of what Paul taught concerning the sacred celebration of Communion?

Never heard of communion being celebrated on the Wednesday before Easter........if they are doing this, it seems to me it should be on Maundy Thursday which is the day Jesus and the Disciples partook of the Last Supper right?

Doing it on Wednesday instead of that particular Thursday seems to be for the sake of convenience rather than honoring Jesus...............as most Baptist churches have regular Wednesday night services.............

OK, ALL THAT ASIDE....................

Just so there is no misunderstanding.......celebrating Communion with your family only, or by yourself IS NOT a sin.....there IS NO Biblical evidence that it would be a sin.........it's just not what the celebration was given to us for.

There are other ways to commune with God...........finding a quiet place, all alone, with a sincere and contrite heart, bowing down, or laying face down, and pouring out / opening up your heart to God...........confessing ALL your doubts, fears, worries, thanksgivings, joys, sorrows, thoughts, desires..............AND truly LISTENING for Him to commune with you is a wonderful way to honor Him.

God bless

Do you have an issue with believers taking communion alone to supplement quiet time spent daily with God, such as prayer time or Bible study? Do you think it's unscriptural to observe communion alone?

To be clear: I'm not asking if it's ok to do it alone so one doesn't have to observe it with their church, but rather to increase intimacy with the Lord in quiet time, can believers observe communion?
Let's take this from the standpoint of many evangelicals including AOG, that in the Communion the bread and wine only REPRESENT the Body and Blood. If that is true, and I assume you agree, then where in Scripture is there a promise that from a 'representation' one can increase intimacy with the Lord?
There isn't, but I suppose if you turn it into a private subjective experience then anything goes.

no you can't take communion alone.

you can bless your food and thank God for it alone.

you can read your bible and study alone
you can pray alone.

however for communion you need to have one other to join with physically in the partaking of the body and blood of Christ.

otherwise it is not communion.

Then there's the 'Drive in Church'

Heeh, maybe it's one way to get the unsaved in to hear the message! (I'm just kidding)

...........and, then there are the birth of the Cowboy Churches that have sprung up all over the US...........

(would like to see how they celebrate Communion...........)

where we live, their are many, many churches,
some open, some closed, some full, others half or less.
they are like ghost-towns during the week.
we also have what I call - four corner-quad-churches -
filled with a scattering of people, the parking lots
sprinkled here and there with lonely looking cars.
the bigger churches have the more 'fancy cars'.
but when it comes time for the bazaars, garage sales,
circus', and such, the lots fill up quick and hungry.
people mill around like bees on honey.

it's very grievous, very sad, this state we've come to.
I yearn for the Spirit-filled village where my brethren
will live in total unity and brotherly love.

don't fully understand the "description" you give..........can't speak to those churches.......but they AIN'T MY church....... :)

If my church is any more Spirit Filled, there are those who might try to pass a law against us.........uh, no, wait, they are already doing that...........

As for a "village" living in total unity and brotherly love, that day is coming........... :)

However, this world we live in is a "fallen creation," and what you describe will not be realized here until the return of the Lion of Judah.........

God bless

you are very blessed!

I've taken communion alone before :) I don't think doing it every day replaces reading your Bible every day or praying though...

Thank you, and, yes, I know how blessed I am with the church family God has given me............I thank Him every day and every night for them..............

Would you be so kind as to explain how exactly one takes communion alone? What steps/procedures do you go through?

Communion means to Commune and have Union. You can't do such things on your own.

I think in Matt.26, Mark 14, Luke 22, Acts 2.42 and I Cor.11 the emphasis seems to be on the collective practice of the Lord's Supper, in order that members of His body may remember the Lord Jesus together.

I see no reason why you can't commune with God by yourself. I meant it is not communion with your neighbor it is communion with God.

The word "communion" isn't in the Bible. So for people to say one person can't partake in taking of the bread and wine in rememberence of the broken body and shedding of the Lord's blood by themselves has no biblical validity.
I believe that partaking of the elements in a church, believers group, home Bible study or by one self is pleasing to our Lord as long as we are worthy to do so. Repentant, saved, in rememberence and with respect are the key components of worthiness in my opinion. I have not seen any other requirements such as babtism...
