Irans population in 1979 the year of the islamist fundamentalist revolution was 35 million.. The new islamic religious authorities then promoted woman having more babies to provide more fighters to spread the islamic revolution across the world.. Irans current population is 92 million.. So in 46 years the population has exploded thus causing a far bigger demand for water.. The current drought would not be causing anywhere near the suffering it is if the population had expanded at a normal rate.. If there was only 45 - 50 million Iranians today then this drought would have been managable..

Yes the leadership pursued a policy of national food independence.. Meaning they greatly expanded the use of water for irrigating crops.. But the demand for food for 35 million people and 92 million people is huge.. So again it all boils down to the motivation of creating more jihadist warriors who would fight jihad for the expansion of Shia islam ..
Most of the water for irrigation isn't for the local food supply. It's to grow pistachios straight up because they are a luxury commodity that Iran can then sell to make money to fund the aims of the cult (funneling money to Hezbollah to fight Israel, blowing money on a highway that no one can use just so the Mahdi doesn't get stuck for another 1000 years in traffic, making a nuclear program to try to force the Apocalypse to happen, etc.)
The covenant God made with with Abraham still holds good. God blesses the nations that bless Israel and curses those that do not. Iran is among the worst offenders and one of the worst afflicted. The good news is that Iranians are rejecting Islam and turning to Jesus. We hope and pray that the regime will fall and Persians (many refuse to call themselves Iranians) will be free to preach and live the gospel.
I would note that the cult that control Iran is even considerred to be aberrant even in the context of Islam. That's not like endorsement, don't get me wrong, but you know you have to be crazy when even the other muslims think you're too crazy for them. That should really tell you a lot about the cult that controls Iran.

About 45 years ago, I had an unpleasant discussion with someone about religion generally. He berated me with "there are no denominations in Islam." Apart from being utterly irrelevant, it is false.
Iran is the centre of Shia Islam. It is not that different from Sunni, Alawite, Ibadi and Sufi. Shia makes up about 15% of Muslims.
However, it has one major difference. It believes that the Muslim version of Messiah will not appear until Israel is destroyed. That explains the fanatical and insane obsession with Israel. The Western world does not get it. Still.
Sunni Islam hates Israel also, but there is a certain amount reason that keeps the hatred in check. Rather than attempt to destroy Israel, they are cleverly turning the world against Israel. Again, Europe especially is clueless. Europe has welcomed Muslims in their millions. What the Arabs could not do by conquest, they are doing openly by mass migration. Some nations are waking up, but I suspect too late. The UK is already a de facto Muslim republic.
Some attempts have been made to protect the country. However, Muslims are reproducing at a greater rate than the locals. Eventually, demographics will ensure the election of a Muslim government.
Only a genuine revival is going to change the situation. There are some encouraging signs. For now, England is no longer on my "must visit" list.
You're kinda right, but it's just crazier than that as most all islamic studies are. To just not write an overly complicated post here is just some basic wiki links of extremely complicated Twelver Shia religious and political structures and ideology that is basically only used in one country, Iran. It is also hardbuilt into the structure of their government purposefully. This is what makes them a cult even inside the context of Islam, and even moreover that problem of them is that it's not a case of oh a cult or cultists controls your State, it's that they specifically crafted the State around the cult and the entire function of the State is to advance the cult. (Ie: instead of building infrastructure and normal State activities, the cult is focused on trying to make their version of eschatology happen basically, they don't make even mundane decisions on the basis of what's good for the State as even many of the Gulf Arab nations do, but rather they make even mundane decisions based on whether or not it will advance the aims of the cult, chiefly, to try to cause Mahdi to come out of hiding or to try to make contact with him.)
