What type of tent do you prefer? Have you been camping? Just a general tent and camping thread for fun!

I'd go for a lightweight two man tent as you get to sit up and have room for bags in it. These days after hearing horror stories about broken dome tent poles and also knowing the old ridge tents didnt have this issue as in an emergency one can use a stick, I've found I prefer a ridge tent. When I looked to get one the only smallish one I could find about four years ago secondhand. I did want cotton duck if possible so it was ideal. I needed to mend some minor things to it. I tried camping with it in our field and had to resort to the house as I got attacked with midges. Tiny bitey flies similar to gnats! I chose the wrong spot to camp. The mesh in the tent vents didnt stop them! Since then I've obtained some of my mums broken tights so one day I will make them into vents that will attach via Velcro over the top of the other vents for such occasions! Just not made them yet.I'm looking into doing more hiking. Anybody know of a good, one-man tent?

It is usually ill preparation. You can make camping as luxury or as minimal as you want. For example, if you want luxury, you could bring lots of creature comforts and also have a big roomy tent... The issue is that in certain cases if one is hiking or cycling one does not want to carry too much weight. Go by car and the luxury starts, with airbeds and big camping stoves along with larger tents, some more like mini homes.Oh gosh, I hate camping. Going camping for the first, and I'm gonna hope only time in sixth grade was one of my worst experiences during my not one, but TWO years there (because different schools). The beds were as hard as a rock, there was so few things to eat there that I mostly had fries and rice for dinner, I had to sleep with three other people in cabins too small for even two people, I was very moody from all the anti-menstruation pills I took every night, and I will never go near a Flying Fox ever again (the ride, not the animal).
How come your avatar PIC and the camping PIC are both on a slope? Looks like you have had fun camping trips!I've been camping in the southwest of America. Give me a cabin in the woods over a waste of money over priced hotel any day. I love to travel and the experience of the outdoors in America was heaven to me. Memories . . .
