It is far less likely that a person of faith can be deceived, if not at all. A person of faith is armed by what is in the Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

Who can you trust to not deceive you or lead you astray? There are varying degrees of trust, like there are varying degrees in people.

The first instance of the testing of one’s faith can be found in Genesis, when after God commands Adam and Eve to not eat from the Tree of Good and Evil for they will die, Satan in the form of a serpent tells Eve that she and Adam won’t die but will know good and evil. Adam and Eve then eat an apple from the Tree. They disobeyed God and put their trust in someone else instead.

You might say they were at a disadvantage, since the Bible wasn’t around then. So, how would they know that they obeyed someone who would lead them away from God? They didn’t have the words of 2 Timothy 3:16-17. They didn’t have the words of Proverbs 3:5 which says to trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In eating from the Tree, Adam and Eve trusted in their own understanding instead of trusting in God by not eating from the Tree. They didn’t have the words of Leviticus and Deuteronomy telling them not to follow other gods. They didn’t have the words of the New Testament telling them to beware of being tempted and deceived.

But we have the Bible and we would be doing well if we read and understand it. Now there are people who claim to be of God, who will quote scripture with you, and who will tell you that God will punish all sinners including you, unless you give money to save your soul, trusting in the person who is telling you these things. What do you do? After all, the person may have quoted parts in which God destroys whole cities because of the sinners in them, and God has warned us not to follow other gods because that would prove to be our death and destruction. But for a small sum of money, or for your life’s savings in some cases, the person will show you the way to God.

Perhaps he will give you a copy of a book that quotes certain passages but not others. Yes, God will destroy sinners. But the Bible also says that God wants us to be saved.

Of course there are houses of worship that you may trust, who pass the plate around or collect dues to maintain themselves. They have accurately and dutifully conveyed God’s Word and have interpreted it based on what the Bible says. But there are cults who tell you to commit suicide to, say, escape the evils of this world. The Bible doesn’t tell you to do that. Proverbs 3:5 in the Bible tells you what to do. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells you what to do.

Some may find reading the Bible to be daunting with all the symbolism and associations that may be hard to understand at first glance. So who would you go to for help?

Anyone who talks on the theme of Jesus’ two great commandments, and of Genesis in which God commands Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply, is more likely to be trustworthy than someone who off the bat tells you that, say, God will destroy you because of your sins, so give money to prevent it. Or, join their cult, where you can get free Kool-Aid.

In the meantime, 1 John 4:1-3 says, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.”

Deuteronomy 18: 20-22 says,“…the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or6 who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.’ And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the LORD has not spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.”

Adam had the Word of God directly spoken to him, so he had the advantage over Eve, this is why Eve was easily deceived as she just heard the words from Adam and the serpent could then manipulate her and question did God really say?

But conversely, since Adam heard from God first and was not deceived, he was punished more than Eve for not listening to God. GOd did speak to his people directly on many occasions. See Samuel, Noah. JEsus, Abraham etc. Sometimes he sends angels, eg Mary, Moses.

For us christian believers God has given us not His word through Jesus and its all written down in scripture, we just need to hear it by reading it. Why written down, well, its so we dont forget!!!

Wrong on 2 counts:
(1) Adaam was present during the serpent's deception; he just never spoke up!
"She also gave some [of the forbidden fruit] to her husband WHO WAS WITH HER (Genesis 3:6)."
(2) God DOES speak to Eve (3:16).

You need not be afraid of him.”
Test The Spirits - 1 John 4:1-6

“1 Beloved, believe not every spirit (behind every doctrine there is a “spirit”; if it’s true Doctrine, the Holy Spirit; if it’s false doctrine, evil spirits), but try the spirits whether they are of God (the criteria is, “is it Scriptural?”): because many false prophets are gone out into the world (and they continue unto this hour).

2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God (as Believers, we are to know what the Spirit of God sanctions): Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God (the Incarnation of Christ speaks of the Cross of Christ, the very reason for which He came; this means the Spirit of God will place his sanction on the Cross and the Cross alone; anything else is not of God):”

“3 And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God (Christ came in the flesh to go to the Cross; this refutes the error of Gnosticism, which claims the flesh of Christ was evil, as much as all matter they claim is evil; also, anyone who denigrates or even minimizes the Cross in any way is not of God): and this is that spirit of Antichrist (the spirit that denies the Cross is the spirit of the Antichrist), whereof you have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. (The Doctrine of the Cross is essential to the Christian system. He who does not hold it cannot be either regarded as a Christian or recognized as a Christian Teacher.)

4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them (some of the Christians of John’s day were tempted to believe the doctrine that denigrated the Cross, but had overcome that temptation): because greater is He (the Holy Spirit) Who is in you, than he (Satan) who is in the world.”

“5 They are of the world (refers to the false teachers of Verse 3): therefore speak they of the world (refers to the fact that the source of their false doctrines is the world), and the world hears them (because the false teachers are saying what the world wants to hear).

6 We are of God (those who accept Christ and the Cross): he who knows God hears us; he who is not of God hears not us. (Man’s attitude toward the Message of the Incarnate Saviour ranks him on God’s side or the world’s.) Hereby know we the Spirit of Truth, and the spirit of error. (The “Spirit of Truth” is the Holy Spirit, Who leads us into all Truth, which refers to “Jesus Christ and Him Crucified [I Cor. 1:23; 2:2]. The “spirit of error” refers to any doctrine that denigrates or ignores the Cross, which is fostered by Satan, who employs seducing spirits [I Tim. 4:1].)

Remember, if you leave the Cross, you walk away from God! Most Christians have left their First Love. They are proclaiming Jesus, but forsaking the Cross (lukewarm). This is called "Spiritual Adultery." If it continues, the scripture says the light is removed! Revelation 2:1-7; Revelation 3:14-19

Revelation 2:1-7 - The "first love" is speaking about "The Cross." They are proclaiming Jesus, but have forsaking the Cross. This is called "Spiritual Adultery (lukewarm)!" The Believer must remember when they first got saved and do the first works. Which is placing and maintaining your faith exclusively in Christ AND THE CROSS. Remember, return, and repent (Must be fruits of repentance - Luke 3:8). If the light is removed, your name is blotted out the Lambs book of life. This is why Jesus said only a few will be saved!

The cross was the instrument of torturous death, and is the primary sympbol of and metaphor for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The cross in and of itself has no power to do anything. Jesus Christ is everything, for in Him we live and move and have our being, and He holds all things together by the word of His power.

The first love referred to in Revelation 2:1-7 is Jesus Christ Himself, not two sticks.

You are reading your own agenda into Rev.2:1-7. a text that mentions neither the Gospel nor the cross. ON the contrary, John assumes that their theology of the cross is correct, but chastises them for "abandoning their first love," that is, for having lost their initial passion and vitality in living godly Christian lives.

Yes the first love is the hearing God as he works the first works in the person giving them His faith so they can believe.

God does not give victory to the flesh. All victory is in Jesus Christ; all victory is in Who He Is and What He accomplished for us at Calvary. Those who are proclaiming Jesus, but forsaking the Cross are wrestling with God. They are trying to bring about victory other than the "Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus-God's prescribed order of victory over sin, the world, the flesh, and the Devil (Rom. 8:2)." This is why God (Jehovah, i.e., "a pre-incarnate appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ") touched the hollow of Jacob thigh (type of the flesh). We learn form this, "Jacob the heel catcher," went from wrestling to clinging (the flesh is now crippled) depending on God's blessing(s). The sentence of death must be written on the flesh-the power of the Cross must be entered into before we can steadily walk with God.

They disobeyed God and put their trust in someone else instead. You might say they were at a disadvantage, since the Bible wasn’t around then.
Adam an Eve did not need the Bible. They had the personal fellowship of God Himself.

And they were at ABSOLUTELY NO DISADVANTAGE WHATSOEVER. They had every privilege and pleasure that one can think of, they had a beautiful garden/orchard which cannot be compared to anything around, and they had JUST ONE word of warning.

Under the circumstances, they had no compelling reason to even talk to the Serpent/Satan, let alone follow his advice. Yet it would appear that they could not resist temptation and thus brought a curse upon themselves and humanity.

Instant gratification. No faith needed .Just reach out no need to think it through.
