Psalm 35:13 (NASB)"But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting, And my prayer kept returning to my bosom."
Powerful message here! This reminded me of a couple of verses I read in Job yesterday morning. Job 31:29-30> "Have I rejoiced at the extinction of my enemy, or exulted when evil befell him? No, I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking for his life in a curse." Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary for verses 11-16 of Psalm 35 says, "We ought to mourn for the sins of those who do not mourn for themselves." (Righteous Lot was grieved by the sin of those around him.) The top verse says David had a mournful, humble, petitioning attitude for his "sick" enemies. The sick can be, figuratively speaking, those who have not accepted Jesus as their Savior and Lord. Or those who have fallen away. Those who are persecuting/trying us. Are we mourning for the sick/our enemies? Are we fasting and praying on their behalf? May it be so! May it be so. I must make changes in a particular relationship concerning this concept.
