I do remember as a teenager the girls would discuss losing or giving their virginity away and wondering who, when and if they should.
Some girls wanted to wait till they got married, so were actively searching and hoping to marry young or ASAP.
Some girls just gave it to their first bf once they came of age and could do so.
Some girls kept away from all that cos they were busy studying and finding a good job to support themselves instead of relying on a man as a financial plan.
Some girls wanted to do it with a boy they really loved, rather than just any Tom, Dick or Harry.
Some just wanted to practice and experiment before they got serious about anyone and have fun.

My mum just said to me don't sleep with boys until I got married, which seemed to me a looong way off. Of course I didn't know what it meant at first and thought it meant literally sleeping! As that was what they called it in those days before maybe the 90s when it changed and people just called it 'having sex', while the Brits would use euphemisms like bonking, or shagging.

I just preferred to call it 'doing it' rather than name it outright, so people had to know what 'it' meant.

In the Bible they just called it 'knowing'. If they were casual and not serious it was just called 'lying' or 'laying' with someone. Most guys just called it 'getting laid' or, if they were humorous about it 'getting lucky' . I'm not sure what Christians call it as wasn't going to church as a teen and missed the whole purity/abstainence culture. I just assumed that young Christian teens were celibate and were going to wait till they got married, but no, many did not want to wait and they declared they would marry young as soon as possible at 18 lol. So every bf was like a potential prospect to have babies with.

No way were they gonna use birth control as that would have been sacreligous and meant you were playing the whore.
 
I think a better name for it would be 'mating,' as thats what it's called in the books about animal reproduction.

Americans would call it 'dating' for humans

In the animal world, bees pollinate flowers that turn into fruit. Female birds lay eggs after they are courted by the male, often in elaborate displays i.e the peacock. They also had love songs, that the birds would sing to attract their mate.

since I lived in the suburbs were most of the pets were cats or dogs, this was different. Dog reproduction was noisy and crude. Cats if they weren't desexed were promiscuous, the female cats (or the queens) would come into heat and attract the male cats (tom cats) and they would fight and growl each other before they got busy. Then the female cats got fat and pregnant and the male cats ran away. lol

Did your parents ask you to watch it as part of your sex ed, or you just found out yourself?

Oh so THAT'S what you meant! I get it now.

You imagined a scenario where I asked my parents, where do babies come from, and they replied, go watch star trek. It will explain everything.

If I had known that's what you were talking about, we could have had some fun with that concept. Oh well.

He didn't say he got his sex ed from Star Trek. He simply made a remark about a quote from the show that gave advice. Star Trek is a program we all grew up on. It's been popular over the years. We can all pretty much remember some phrase from Star Trek. It's been on for years.

We met "Number One" and his wife in Maine many years ago. Jonathan Frakes and his wife Genie Frances. We were eating at a restaurant. My sister and I went out and my mother came out all excited for us to go back inside. She didn't recall his name so my sister and I walked in to the restaurant with my father talking to Jonathan who signed a paper for him " Go Boldly". We talked to his wife and they were sweet people. Much to my sister and my embarrassment, my father handed him one of our CDs. lol They were really good about it all. You cannot believe how much milage that story has gotten over the years. smh

When I drive/go past the Baby Factory, I tell children that's where babies are made.

Casearean sections...how do you explain that to your kids I wonder. Doctors slice me open so you could be born?
Kid would be traumatised until you explain it was the wonders of anaesthetic/epidurals which means you can't feel a thing.

For those born naturally ..well watching animals give birth was enough education for me. Kittens are very gooey when they come out for example. Breast feeding is also explainable.

When people ask me where I was born I had to tell them it was the hospital.
Where most babies are born, although some are born at home.

Jesus birth is always explained away as if Mary never experienced pain. His conception was just the power of the Holy Spirit. I mean true it's a spiritual thing, but point is Jesus came in the flesh, so to deny that side of him is kind of a disservice.

When I was a young child I remember playing house with other young children and mommy having a baby. "Mommy" had a babydoll shoved up under her shirt, laid down, 'doctor and nurse' would put a blanket over mommy's tummy, and with a toy knife 'cut' mommy's tummy open and pull out the baby, wrap it in the blanket, then pretend to sew mommy's tummy up. Simple as that.
I laughed when I was older and working in child care observing children playing similar.

I laughed again when I had C-sections (not by choice, but due to medical issues) and it was very similar... :unsure: somewhat.

When my kids were at ages they started asking questions I could honestly say " You were ready to be born, the dr gave me medicine not to feel anything, cut open my tummy and took you out".
They were a little older and developmentally age appropriate before discussing the preferred natural, way of delivery.
