I remember seeing news articles not too long ago about people paying to go to places where they would be held for a while - just cuddled, nothing beyond that.
No offense to anyone who's tried it, but it sounds strange to me, and I can't imagine the operation not being at least a little awkward.
Anyhow, it makes me wonder about how desperate we're becoming in this society for connection.
How can a society that's so connected via technology be so disconnected at the heart level?
I guess I can understand that disconnection. I have friends, go to church and work, but there's a lack of strong relationships where the need for affection and deep connection are met.
Is that my fault? Maybe. I guess if I worked harder at it, I could cultivate more of those relationships.
Is it society's fault? I don't think so, but I definitely think the structure of life as we know it has a way of driving us apart and toward our own ambitions.
I wonder what Christian community is supposed to look like. I wonder what Jesus has in mind for us in this day and age.
Do you have any thoughts?
I've seen technology used as a way to bring people together, so it's not all bad.
This site has definitely been a help. I've seen people come through with messages of comfort and encouragement. Some of you have even given me "virtual hugs." So cute.
Still, despite my real life connections and my virtual ones, I feel a sense of isolation in my day to day life that goes deeper than the fact that I'm a young single lady.
Maybe it's my heart that feels isolated. I wonder if that's a common feeling these days. Do you feel that way?
Maybe it's more honesty that we need, that I need, about the fact that we're not doing so well on our own, that we don't have it all together -- that sometimes we just need a big hug!
I don't know. I'm just thinking on paper.
Now I'm thinking about having a good cuddle -- the free kind. Haha...
