I find it interesting how the Bible talks about our Cannanite cave men and cave women ancient medieval ancestors and their civilizations. From Abraham the Hebrew who crossed the Euphrates River and ventured towards Egypt to Moses and Mosaic law. Jesus Christ didn't come to abolish the law and the prophets but Jesus Christ came to fulfill the law and the prophets. The Cannanite faith. The faith that our upmost ancient cave men and cave women ancestors. The Abrahamic faith in God.
Gen 11:27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.
Gen 11:28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
Gen 15:7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
Gen 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
Gen 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Gen 12:5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
In the Bible, Haran is a major city in Upper Mesopotamia (modern-day southeastern Turkey/Syrian border) where Abraham settled after leaving Ur and before moving to Canaan.
Abraham was originally from Ur of the Chaldees modern day Iraq.
God called him out from that place to Canaan where his people would inherit the land.
Gen 9:25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
Canaan was cursed but they could still take hold of the Jews religion if they wanted.
They were defiant to God and His ways.
They did not have faith and was against the Jews.
That is why God had them possess the land to rid it of their heathen ways that was a negative impact on people.
And like nations that are like that they are also very cruel.
God allowed Israel to fight physically to protect themselves and to get rid of the heathen's ways.
But if a nation did right God would bless that nation.
Like Babylon when king Nebuchadnezzar acknowledged the God of Israel as the greatest of the gods and proclaimed throughout his kingdom to not say anything against Him or they would be cut in pieces and their house made a dunghill.
And God blessed them mightily which Babylon rode on eagle's wings.
But his son took the throne and blew it and the eagle's wings were plucked.
Abraham was originally from Iraq so he did not care about the ways of Canaan.
And he was following the one true God and going by His ways which He was against Canaan's ways.
Gen 15:13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
Gen 15:14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
Gen 15:15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
Gen 15:16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
Gen 15:17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
Gen 15:18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
Gen 15:19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,
Gen 15:20 And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,
Gen 15:21 And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
The Hebrews would be in Canaan but not take the land by conquest.
Then go to Egypt where they were enslaved.
And then go back to Canaan to take the land for the iniquity of the Amorites was full.
The Amorites were one of the prominent people groups inhabiting ancient Canaan before the Israelite conquest.
The Hebrew term translated as “iniquity” in Genesis 15:16 refers to wickedness, sin, or moral corruption.
Iniquity can involve thoughts, feelings, speech, or actions that transgress or ignore God’s law or character.
The Amorites had engaged in deeply sinful behaviors and practices such as idolatry, violence, and immorality that were offensive to God’s holy standards.
Yet, God did not immediately punish them.
God punished Sodom and Gomorrah for their terrible wickedness and Canaan.
