if you believe this descibes the end of the world you are mistaken...it was the end of the Jewish age, or theocracy.

NOTE....this is inspired AFTER JESUS resurrected and ascended...He does not seize control of all earthly kingdoms as LORD until the 7th trump of Revelation...

The earth and heaven will be burned with fire,for all sin must be purged with fire,and they have been tainted by sin,the heaven tainted by the fallen angels,and the earth tainted by people who were rebellious.
In the New Jerusalem,the final destination of the saints the old heaven and old earth shall not be remembered,or come to mind,and the angels,and people,there,will not remember anything prior to the New Jerusalem,because it is associated with sin and rebellion,which Jesus said I make all things new.
But it is an impossibility to see this if your presumption insists that it has to mean the end of the world.

I was taught the other view first, but I think it is not as accurate as I was first taught.
the kjv says end of the world, but the word is the end of the age...

I'm going to agree with you on this. But please examine what you believe a little closer.
When Jesus comes for the kingdom at the 7th trumpet, that's it, the end, fire from heaven.
He will appear a second time without sin unto salvation Heb 9:28.
That's where the story of the little scroll ends.
After that begins the description of the Roman beasts, (I know, Rome again, sigh)

This is a parallel passage to Dan. 2, where the stone strikes the image. That would be the place where Jesus takes possession of the kingdom. After the stone strikes, the chaff and wheat harvest. Rev 20:11-15.
Then the new earth.

There are only 2 resurrections, 1 Cor 15:23-28,23-24. We are waiting for the second one, the one with eternal salvation.
But then comes the end.

Yes, if we want to know what the symbols in Revelation mean, we need only to turn to the OT.... rather than invent meanings for them. They almost all came directly from the OT.
