The 'good old days' of well-loved hymns are gone? What's your take on this?

I don't have a problem with the music really; a lot of contemporary Christian songs are very good. The old hymns just seem a little dead in comparison.
However, I do have a problem with the motivation behind a lot of it. Contemporary Christian music is produced by the same big music companies that produce the worst of the worst secular artists. It's a business; money and greed are the motivating forces behind it. Many contemporary Christian artists only use CCM as a stepping stone to success in the secular world.
There's also another problem. The Christian leaders who really push CCM have an agenda: that is, to radically change Christianity. They teach and believe that "true worship" has to be restored to the church as part of their overall "restoration" goals. Old traditions have to go. It doesn't matter if those traditions have a solid foundation in the truth or not, they just have to go to make way for the new. This is extremely irresponsible and a very bad direction for Christianity to be going in.

So true, if you watch the movie Sheffy, he said that when prayer was no longer allowed in school that we can look back and realize that our religion wasn't taken from us, it was slowly given up but by bit and the world will never give it back.
He was right.
We pretty much only sing the good old well loved hymns, nothing else is good enough.

It is a pet peeve of mine to have constant repetition and yet most people don't seem to be exceptionally bothered by it. It may just come down to personal preference. I was remarking today that at least the purpose is praise and worship vs the repetition that's in secular pop music. It's coming down to having to be picky about where I shop, workout or recreate at this point because pop music has become so common where I live. The issue seems to be coming to the fore for whatever reason.
Perhaps it's God's way of telling me to listen to music instead of silence all the time? The problem is that I don't want to miss social opportunities in unlikely places (which do happen but rarely turn into anything meaningful) still though...is that a reason to curtail them entirely? Quandaries...Alas.

I sympathise with you and feel the same way. Perhaps the issue is Christians becoming complacent with prayer expecting God to do everything and don't take action to fix the problem themselves.
We aren't supposed to just be hearers of the word but doses of the word. If you don't like your options, take a small business course, apply for a small business loan and start your own business.
The world has the liberty to exercise their beliefs and play what ever music they like,. We have the same liberty but don't exercise it and thus submit to the world's substandard anti Christian philosophies.
Ps if I end up taking a tourism course at a secular school, call me in 2 years, sounds like you need a vacation as much as I do lol
Yes I do believe I'm very nearly at the point of "needing" a vacation without any reservations I just don't want to camp in the winter and hotels seem overpriced alone...but I could also go for a good retreat so perhaps I'll look into that seriously.

The lyrics are so beautiful, not many know that the blood of the Lamb of God, the Lord Jesus Christ is fresh today on the mercy seat in heaven for us to claim as the atonement for our sins as we come in repentance.
Well I wanted to do Hotel and resort management but serving alcohol is mandatory so I can't do that.. but I can work with the tourism program to learn business management skills and still try to get a business plan to proceed with a hotel or resort.
With a hotel I could partner with local businesses like golf courses and ski resorts, but with my own resort, I can offer top notch service with out sinful devices like alcohol.
I can see not wanting to serve alcohol...I have other burdens when it comes to hotels which would prevent me from doing that at present.
Retreat centers though are another matter. Certainly worth looking into. I've seen at least one retreat center on a beach (not as nice as a resort but it's mostly a church camp) There have to be more upscale ones that cater to adults though somewhere. I've been interested in the retreat concept for a LONG time but the only one I found in my own backyard (so to speak) didn't work out...which was frustrating. Creating one from scratch would be like chartering a neighborhood or a church and certainly has my attention if things line up.
Yeah, it's a destructive substance that ruins people's lives.
I don't know, I have never stayed at a resort our parents never took us on a vacation as kids and ODSP doesn't pay me enough to even consider one.
It's distracting to know that no one wants to hire you when you don't have access to reliable transportation.
