what differentiates love from truth?
The truth can be delivered with malicious intent or in a malicious manner. So while it may be truth that a person is ugly and their mother dresses them funny, it's not love to say so. Its love to seek their very best regardless of the harsh truth.

What I mean is to take communion, as in the Lord's supper. Of course I wouldn't give the sacrament to or take it with an unbeliever. Some Christians have different views, such as Lutheran vs say Baptists. Both of which I disagree with even though I attend a Baptist Church.
I wasn't referring to unbelievers either. But let's say there are those who call themselves Christian, but deny the Scriptures are fully inspired by God (only partially), deny the Bodily resurrection of Christ (He rose spiritually only) and teach the way to God is by following the Christ within. Umm. No communion or whatever one calls it for me. Thanks but no thanks. That is why I would want there to be some boundaries, whether it's doctrine or Communion.

Cross:

I thought of a Scripture that would fit this topic, although some may question it........but, I believe it does.

John 5:39) Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

40) And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

Surely the Scriptures are Truth, but eternal life is found in Christ, and Christ is love!
Equally...John 14:6a (KJV) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:

Why are 'love the Lord your God' and 'love your neighbor' called greater commandments than 'you shall not lie' ?

If you truly love God and love your neighbor, you would not commit sins against either. Therefore, if you are always walking in love, you will keep His commandments.

It would only be truth about a person being ugly from a personal opinion from the person who thinks so.

that ol saying beauty is in the eyes of the beholder lol..

I think at least one of the examples you gave does exclude someone from being Christian. Denial of the resurrection in part is a compete denial.

like, love doesn't lie -- but you can tell be honest without love?

so one implies the other, but the other doesn't necessarily lead to the one?

love and truth are intertwined --

Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.
(1 Peter 1:22)

this is just one place

does this mean, conforming to the truth refines love?

Perhaps love is the greater commandment simply because it is one of doing rather than refraining from saying.

Here is an Extreme example:

More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
'Cause I'd already know...

And it was Foreigner who wanted to know what love is, but Air Supply was all out of it.

Love is God....it is Jesus....it is the Holy Spirit.....it is God's Salvation Plan

Truth (His Word) is the foundation that the Plan is built on in my opinion.

Yes, Truth is very, very important! However, without love. Agape Love, not mans version, Truth is of no avail concerning Salvation. I liken it to the Two Covenants........... The Law brought man unto judgement, Grace brought man to Eternal Life. Truth brings man unto judgement, Love brings man unto Eternal Life.

Anyway........both are wonderful and necessary, but I'll take Gods undying Love every time!
