Have you guys seen Carrie? Well, tone it down a bit and it becomes my case.
So, all my life I´ve had a religion obsessed mother. I grew up going to church with my sisters and just loving it! The people in church were always nice to me and the pastor is so close to my family that I call him uncle. He´s always been there for me when I need him... but that doesn´t change the fact that my dearest mother has her own interpretation of the bible, and step by step how you need to act to be a "true child of God."
I won´t tell you guys my past because I could write a book about it. Rather, I´ll just give you enough background info to be able to vent about what has just happened 30 minutes ago.
So, im with my mom in the car and we´re chatting about my new job and how stressful it can become but how God will help me overcome it. Once she starts talking about God, though, it somehow reminds her or how well her life is and how sad mine is so she decides to remind me as well by accusing me of lying to my pastor (uncle) about my relationship with God.
Truth is yeah, Ive been struggling a lot and no I don´t go to church often because I literally work from Mon to Sun so there´s no time to go. Me not going to church angers her so much she keeps telling me that I don´t believe in God, that saying that I believe but not going to Church doesnt count, that im not a good christian, yatta yatta.
I tell her that one´s relationship with God is private, that she has no right to try and evaluate how good a christian I am, that I will pay for my sins before God just like she will pay for her own. She just doesnt get it...
So my questions are this:
What does being a true christian imply?
Why do many christians judge others that don´t follow God´s path and even hate them?
Is religion actually turned into hate by humans?
Can anyone follow God based on the principle that he is love and forgiveness and not judge or hate but support?
I have so many questions I know hahahaha. If anyone is interested in answering and/or chatting, you can let me know. I dont want a discussion, I want to know what other christians think.
Thank you and God bless you!
