The Hearing of Faith !

Gal 3:2,5

2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

This Hearing of Faith is only for the regenerate, those who have received the Spirit through Faith as in through the Faithfulness of Christ Gal 3:13-14

13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Its a Redemptive Blessing Gal 4:4-6

4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

Now after receiving the Spirit , one can now believe the Gospel, because they now with the Spirit have been given spiritual hearing, and Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God Rom 10:17

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

This is the Hearing of Faith in Gal 3:2,5 !

Now we must add Jesus words here, Jn 8:43-47

43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

This proves that the Spirit must have been given in order to Hear God's Word, Jesus makes it clear here in Vs 47 !

To be of God is to be Born of God !

Jesus again asserts this sublime Truth Jn 18:37

37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Thats what the Hearing of Faith is, Hearing the Word of God or Christ. Some Translate Rom 10:17

17 So belief cometh of hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.ASV

The word word is rhema and means:

that which is or has been uttered by the living voice, thing spoken, word any sound produced by the voice and having definite meaning

So Faith cometh by Hearing the Living voice of Christ, which Jesus makes it clear that those who do hear His Voice are of the Truth, or born of the Spirit Jn 18:37

37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

So thats the Hearing of Faith, it the Spiritual hearing of those who are born of God the Spirit ! 5

He is the Spirit of Promise to the Seed !

The Spirit is promised to all who shall be saved in and through the Lord Jesus Christ, because all that shall be saved are His Seed Isa 53:10

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

Isa 44:13

For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:

Jesus after having been Crucified and risen and ascended to the Father's Right Hand, received from the Father this Acts 2:30-33

30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

That word shed is the greek word ekcheō means :

I.
to pour out, shed forth

II.
metaph. to bestow or distribute largely

Earlier in Acts 2:17-18

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out G1632 of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

These people are His Seed as Per Isa 44:13 ; Isa 53:10 !

They have the Spirit of Promise poured out upon them because He by His death for them, His having made His soul an offering for sin for them, He redeemed them from the curse of the Law, so that the Blessing of Abraham should come upon them, which is The Spirit Gal 3:13-14

13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

This shows you also that Christ and Abraham had a Seed amongst the Gentiles , and they too must receive the Promise of the Spirit poured out upon them as did a remnant of jews did.

Remember Peter said of the Gentiles Acts 10:45

And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Remember the Promise Isa 44:3

3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:

Acts 11:17

Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

See all this was confirming that God had a Seed of Abraham not just in the ethnic jews, but also upon the Gentiles, and so the Spirit must according to promise be poured out upon them also , they were included in the Seed of Christ whom He made His soul an offering for sin for Isa 53:10

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

The Spirit is Promised to as many as the Lord God shall call out of the jews and Gentiles Acts 2:38-39

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

That is to the jewish remnant elect and the Gentile remnant of the Elect, described here as the " all that are afar off"

Paul Identifes them as Gentiles Eph 2:17

And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

The ethnic jews were the nigh portion of the Seed, and the Gentiles were the afar off portion of the Seed, though still One Seed of Abraham and of Christ !

All who receive remission of sins are the Seed, and are promised the Spirit ! Acts 2:38

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Remission of sins is through the Redemption of His Blood Matt 26:28

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Eph 1:7

7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness/remission of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

All which are sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise Eph 1:13

13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

The Spirit Promised to Christ's Seed Isa 44:3

3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:

Thats who believes the Gospel of their Salvation, the Seed Isa 53:10

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. 5

The Holy Spirit of Promise !

Eph 1:13-14

13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

14 Which is the earnest/down payment of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

The Holy Spirit is the down payment of our Inheritance, if indeed we are heirs of promise.

Such as Heb 6:17

Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

Heb 11:9

By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

Rom 4:13-14

13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

All of Abraham's Children who are Justified by Faith with the Righteousness of Christ are the Heirs of Promise ! It had nothing to do with ethnicity ! But with the Righteousness which is revealed to Faith !

Now the Inheritance of which the Spirit is a earnest down payment of is stated here Gal 3:18

18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

The same is mentioned here Heb 11:8

8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

Remember what Paul wrote back in Galatians, the Promised Inheritance was not to Abraham's physical seed through the Law Rom 4:13

13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

Thats why Heb 11:8 said that Abraham BY FAITH, when he was called, Obeyed, the obedience of Faith and imputed Righteousness.

Noah the same thing, The Righteousness of Faith showed him an Heir Heb 11:7 !

And once again, its the Inheritance promised here to Abraham and His Seed Gen 17:8

8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

That word possession is actually achuzzah :

I.possession, property
A.
land

B.
possession by inheritance

This Promised Inheritance is promised to Abraham and His seed after him in all generations ! The seed is not a jewish ethnic people through the Law Rom 4:13, but made up of a Spiritual Seed of Believers of both jew and Gentile Rom 4:13-17

13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

14 For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:

15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

The Seed in Rom 4:16 comprised of both jew and gentile Children of Abraham because of Faith, is the same Seed referenced here in Gen 17:8

8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

The Inheritance is the whole Earth , or the World Rom 4:13 ; Matt 5:5 ; 2 Pet 3:13, and to each of the Heirs of Promise of this Inheritance, the Spirit is given them as a down payment of that Inheritance !

Belief of the Truth is Salvation !

2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

Salvation here is belief of the Truth and its part of Christ's Saving Work, the merits of it, which necessitates all for whom He died to believe the Truth. God from the beginning hath chosen them to this Salvation.

The word Salvation here is the greek word σωτηρία and means:

deliverance, preservation, safety, salvation: deliverance from the molestation of enemies

Unbelief/disobedience is an enemie, it holds all by nature prison to it. God hath concluded all in unbelief Rom 11:32

32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

The word concluded sugkleió means:

I enclose, shut in, make subject to.

Did you know that the devil is the enemy that holds us in unbelief ? Look at 2 Cor 4:3-4

3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

4 In whom the god of this world[The devil] hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Folks, the devil , the god of this world, is credited with holding men in unbelief, even after hearing the Word of God to be saved Lk 8:12

12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

Folks, the devil is an enemy against believing the Truth so that it converts to God !

But Christ through His death delivers those He dies for from their enemies, particularily spiritual enemies Lk 1:69-75

69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;

70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:

71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; Satan, the devil hates those Christ died for !

72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;

73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,

74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,

75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

The Holy Spirits sanctifying work in 2 Thess 2:13 implements the deliverance / saving of all for whom Christ died, from the enemy of unbelief. The devil cannot perform his enemy work here with success to them Christ died for Lk 8:12

12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

See the devil here prevents conversion to belief of the Truth that was heard, however Christ delivers those He died for from the devil and this work of his !

Now, if we say that we believed the Truth by our own freewill, then we are claiming that we are our own saviour, this is blasphemy and antichrist ! See we have to be saved from the enemy of unbelief in order to belief of the Truth, and Christ is the Savior from Unbelief !

Why the Holy Spirit given before the Gospel sent ?

1 Cor 2:12

12 Now we [Believers] have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

The Spirit is given as a Spiritual Blessing to all for whom Christ died and redeemed [See Gal 3:13-14] that they may know [come to know experientially] that Christ gave Himself for us Gal 1:4

Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

We need to be given the Spirit first to come to know this Titus 2:14

14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

1 Tim 2:6

Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Mk 10:45

45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

And the Spirit is given to all for whom He gave Himself for that they may come to know it in a for real spiritual manner ! 5

The Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Rom 8:10,9

And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

The Spirit, which is also Christ's Spirit, or the Spirit of Christ Vs 9 it is given to all for whom Christ died because of Righteousness. His Death for them established them as Righteous Rom 5:19 and where Righteousness is, Life is demanded !

Christ's death for their sins erased for them the penalty of sin, which death in all of its phases is the wages of Rom 6:23

23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

But now that Christ satisfied for them that death wage, a reversal is due unto them, which means death is abolished and Life must be granted, because of Righteousness. When we read that Christ rose from the dead after having died for the sins of God's People, it states that He rose because of their Justification Rom 4:25

Who was delivered for[because of] our offences, and was raised again for[because of] our justification.

That word Justification, the greek word dikaiósis means:

acquittal, justifying, justification, a process of absolution.

There has for them been a discharge of the debt of death owed because of sin, a absolution means:

act of absolving; a freeing from blame or guilt; release from consequences, obligations, or penalties.

Justification also means:

the act of God's declaring men free from guilt and acceptable to him; adjudging to be righteous,

acquittal, which brings with it the bestowment of life,

Hence we read also in Rom 5:18

Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

The Life here is Resurrection and Spiritual Life, that releases the Justified ones by Christ's Death, releases them from Spiritual Death by giving them Life by the Spirit of their resurrected Head communicated to them, because of His Righteousness now being charged to their account !

So to them, The Spirit is Life [it bestows it] because of Righteousness ! 5

Holy Spirit convicted sinners !

Jn 16:8-10

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;

10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

The sinners that Christ came to seek and to save, to call to repentance are not merely sinners by nature, of which all men are, but sinners by Holy Spirit reproving, conviction !

There is a world of men to whom Christ is a Saviour to, and everyone of them shall be convinced of their need of Him by Holy Spirit conviction, and not a natural legal conviction wrought by conscience, but a Spirit wrought conviction, and hence these are the ones Jesus calls to repentance Matt 9:13

13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

In fact, thats what happened on the day of pentecost in abundance , when a large number had been convicted of sin by the Spirit, then by the preaching of the Gospel by the Apostles, they were called to repentance Acts 2:37-38

37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

See what sinners were called to repentance here ? Those type of sinners were called to repentance, Holy Spirit wrought conviction, look at Vs 39

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

This shows that those in Vs 37-38 had been called, and many shall yet be called because of Holy Spirit conviction wrought in them. CP the word called in Acts 2:39 and Matt 9:13 its the same word !

The only difference is the word in Acts 2:39 has the prep pros attached which means towards, as many as God shall call towards Himself ! All sinners are not Holy Spirit filled sinners ! 6

2 Thess 2:13 before belief of the Truth !

2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

Folks before belief of the Truth, which in and of itself is a type of salvation, in that we are by it saved from unbelief and false gospels and lies of men inspired by satan 2 Cor 11:4,13-15 and doctrines of devils 1 Tim 4:1,16 ; 2 Tim 2:25-26 ; so yes before belief of the Truth, which is also Faith, for the greek word belief here in 2 Thess 2:13 is the same greek word noun for Faith pistis, hence before anyone can receive the Truth in Faith, it must be through application of the Spirits Sanctifying Work accompanying it, effecting it, and it is that which gives belief of the Truth.

Thats why there are multitudes upon multitudes in the churches and religions today who really dont believe the Truth or believe it without compromise with heart conviction, its simply because they were never sanctified of the Spirit, like the ones who receive it [The Truth] in good ground Matt 13:23

23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

That good ground is hollowed by the Spirit of God, sanctified by Him and made prepared for the reception of the Truth !

2 Thess 2:13 before belief of the Truth ! 2

This Sanctifying Work of the Spirit unto the belief of the Truth is imperative because the Truth is a Sanctified Truth, or else how could Jesus pray this stated request to His Father for His followers Jn 17:17

17 Sanctify[imperative] them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

And this applies to all that shall believe which are the Sheep Jn 17:19-20

19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

So if the Truth itself is Sanctified, and does Sanctify, the Vessels receiving it must also be Sanctified in the Minds and Hearts, hence Sanctified persons are only fit vessels to receive Sanctified Truth, and from that point on grow in Sanctification in the Knowledge and belief of the Truth 2 Pet 3:18; 1:4-8

4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Because the Spirit which sanctified them in the first place, shall abide , dwell in them.

Thats why John writes in 1 Jn 2:27

27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

And if anyone denies the need of this Sanctifying work of the Spirit, which is none other than the New Birth, before believing the Truth, they are liars, and this very scripture 2 Thess 2:13 stands as a Testimony against them, and let it be known, that their denial is now moreso against the Holy Spirit and the need of His Work effectually before we can believe the Truth ! 6

2 Thess 2:13 before belief of the Truth ! 3

2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

This verse also means that God has Chosen some to experience these Two things:

#1 Sanctification of the Spirit or New Birth ;

#2 Belief of the Truth,

Also the belief of the Truth is part of the Sanctifying process God the Spirit begins in us [Phil 1:6] in answer to Jesus prayer Jn 17:17-20, its a ongoing progressive work.

The writer of Hebrews writes Heb 10:14 and the word sanctified here opposed to in Vs 10 where its a perfect tense [once and all completed] yet here in Vs 14 its in the present tense " those being sanctified" which denotes continual action ongoing, thats because they will continually being Sanctified by the Truth, as they grow in Grace and Knowledge of it, and acknowledging of the Truth Titus 1:1; 2 Tim 2:25, hence all for whom Christ died, shall be granted repentance to the acknowledging of the Truth, For repentance toward God is not complete if it does not result in belief and or acknowledgment of the Truth, if not, it simply was not repentance granted by God !

Granting Faith and Repentance are the same thing !

I put this under " The Holy Spirit and Salvation " because it is the Spirits work through Christ, because of His Saving Merit of His Blood, that works in all for whom He died both Faith and Repentance !

Acts 5:31

31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

Acts 11:18

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

2 Tim 2:25

25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

All three of these scriptures use the same giving verb didōmi ! I believe this is the result of God giving each person Christ died for the Spirit Rom 5:5

5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given/didōmi unto us.

Now why is it that both Faith and Repentance are the same thing ? In other words none of the above texts about giving repentance cannot be divorced from God with giving repentance giving with it an Acknowledgment of the Truth, which in essence is giving them a Knowledge of their Salvation Lk 1:77

77 To give/didōmi knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,

So in other words, repentance being granted or given is accompanied by belief in the truth of your Salvation, which cannot be divorced, once we acknowledge the Truth, our hearts / minds have stop opposing it and showing enmity towards it ! Thats why repentance is a change of mind towards the Truth ! 6

. Baptism didn't become a necessary part of salvation until Jesus death and the NT took effect
Oh no this is salvation by ceremonial/ordinance works , which nullifies salvation by Christs death alone.

Salvation by the Spirits Sanctifying work also !

2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

As the Beloved of the Lord, and the fact that the Lord God is Triune, subsisting always as the Father, the Word/Son, and Holy Spirit, then it is also True that they are peculiarly Beloved by God the Spirit in the Purpose of Redemption, and His Great Love for them motivates His Sanctification of them, setting them apart for the service of the Lord. The word sanctification in our above text is hagiasmos:

I.consecration, purification

II.the effect of consecration

A.sanctification of heart and life

the process of making or becoming holy, set apart, sanctification, holiness, consecration.

(the process of advancing in holiness); use of the believer being progressively transformed by the Lord into His likeness (similarity of nature).

All the beloved of the Lord shall undergo thius process 2 Cor 3:18

18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

The Spirit begins this and completes it in us Phil 1:6

Being confident, persuaded of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Again, Paul mentions the Love of the Spirit Rom 15:30

30 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;

The Spirit also sanctifies all whom the Son sanctified Himself for in answer to this prayer to the Father Jn 17:17-20

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

Thats in fact why He is sent by both the Father and Son, the Father sends Him in the Name of the Son Jn 14:26

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Jn 15:26

26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

The Spirits Testitification of Christ to the Church, the Elect !

Jn 15:26

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

In the Economy of Salvation its the Spirits Unique and Blessed Job to ensure that the Souls Christ made atonement for, believe in Him, give them Faith in Him, because otherwise they dont believe Jn 16:8-9

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;

Thats their chief sin that needs to be dealt with, their natural unbelief !

Hence the Spirit wroughts both conviction as well as assurance in the Souls of the Elect, the Church, He assures them that Christ's Death was for them !

Thats part of His Testification. The Spirit confirms the Testimony of Christ in them by the Call of the Gospel 1 Cor 1:2,6-9

2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's:

6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed[By the Spirit] in you:

7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

And the Spirit, through the Faithful Preaching of the Gospel gives Testimony to all the ransomed souls of God, whom Christ gave Himself a Ransom for 1 Tim 2:6-7

6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.

That Testified there is that which Jesus stated earlier would happen Jn 15:26

26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

His Testification leads to belief of the Truth 2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

If one for whom Christ died does not come to Faith in Him, The Spirit failed in His Job, because then Christ was not Glorified with that precious Soul He died for Jn 16:13-14

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 7

Jn 16:7

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

The word expedient also conveys the meaning of [appropriate for a purpose]. The Lord Jesus Christ is giving His disciples [The Church] to know the importance of the need of the comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, to come and to assist in their commission of evangelism, not only would He aid them, but He is needed for the gathering in of the rest of the Church, the people Christ died for.

The Holy Spirit was responsible to apply the saving benefits to all Christ died for, the Church, His Body. He came to regenerate all of God's elect as it was according to The Everlasting Covenant of which Christ is the Surety.

Isa 59:21

As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.

The coming of the Spirit to regenerate is a covenant promise [Ezk 36:26-27] and blood purchased, He works by means of the Father and the Son [Jn 14:26], as this is realized we give Glory To God Triune for the Salvation of a sinner, and Thank Them for the saving Operations of the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit works from the Father's decree 2 Thess 2:13

13But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

And the Son's redemption Gal 4:5

To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

Rom 8:15

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

And so He is sent to make effective what was counseled in the Everlasting Covenant for the experimental salvation of God's people that Christ died for.

To all the Father elected, all whom Christ died, the Spirit is given to them as the Spirit of promise. The Holy Spirit is the bond of union between the elect members and Christ their Head, He unites us to Christ experimentally because we have the Same Spirit He has, that is the Holy Spirit in the Head is in the members, so He works like effects for the same, if He quickens the Head as here:

Rom 8:11

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

1 Pet 3:18

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

He will also quicken the Members..

Thats why each dead spiritually elect or chosen in Christ Eph 1:4 will be quickened while dead in trespasses and sins Eph 2:1,4,5

1And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

4But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

5Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved )

This is a work of the Spirit in Salvation, why it was expedient that Christ go away that He may come and begin His Saving, quickening Ministry, at this time He would mostly work in behalf of the apostles to prepare the elect to receive their word..

You left out the REAL work of the Spirit in John 16:7. He is called the “HELPER”. Verse 8 says that when He comes, 1) He will convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. To “convict” means to “expose” or “bring to light.” SO He will EXPOSE sin, righteousness and judgement.

2) He is called the Spirit of TRUTH and His work is to “GUIDE YOU INTO ALL TRUTH. Verse 13. He will SPEAK, and tell you things to come; He will take the things of Christ and “DECLARE IT TO YOU.” The Bible, the word of God was divinely guided and written by the Holy Spirit

2Peter 1:21 He guided the prophets as they SPOKE.

1 Cor. 2:13- Paul said he taught the things the Holy Spirit teaches,

Ephesians 3:5- it was the Holy Spirit that REVEALED the mystery of the gospel.

1Cor. 2:16- the Holy Spirit revealed to us “THE MIND OF CHRIST.”

All of these scriptures are a fulfillment of Jesus’s words in John 16 where He tells us exactly what the Spirit will do. His primary responsibility was to teach, reveal, and guide all into the TRUTH.

The Holy Spirit is a “gift” to those who have been baptized into Christ. Acts 2:38. Those in Acts 8 were “saved” first (verse 12) and THEN received the Holy Spirit ( verses 15-17). One of the primary purposes of the Holy Spirit according to Christ is to “guide” reveal”, “declare” and “teach”.

Romans 8:28 The Holy Spirit “helps” us in our weaknesses. He IS called the “HELPER” according to Christ.

Through Sanctification of the Spirit !

2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

1 Pet 1:2

2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

The Sanctification of the Spirit, this Spiritual Blessing as Per Eph 1:3

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

It is the direct result and effect of Christ's redeeming / atoning Death or Blood, meaning all for whom He died, shed His Blood, MUST be Sanctified or Set Apart by the Spirit, in order to partake of the Spiritual Benefits of His Death, which is a bequeathal of Spiritual blessings ; for without this work of the Spirit, Christ's redemptive death would have been unfruitful to God, which would be contrary to its purpose by God Jn 12:24

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Without it the beneficiaries would have remained in Unbelief, so by it, the Sanctification of the Spirit, results the belief of the Truth 2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

The word belief here interestingly enough is the Greek noun Pistis and means:

conviction of the truth of anything, belief; in the NT of a conviction or belief respecting man's relationship to God and divine things, generally with the included idea of trust and holy fervour born of faith and joined with it relating to God

Its Translated Faith 239 times in the NT

It also results in obedience 1 Pet 1:2

2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

Hence obedience and Faith in this are the same, and so we have such biblical expressions as Rom 16:26

But now is made manifest , and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

Now on the Eve of His Death, Christ made a request of the Father to those He was about to die for Jn 17:17

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

And lest we attempt to confine this requested blessing to only His then disciples Vs 20 states otherwise :
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 4

Being made a sinner !

Being A sinner is a Blessed thing, you know why ? Because of this 1 Tim 1:15

15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

Now isn't that a Blessing in being a sinner ? But its important to understand something at this point, I am not speaking of just any ole sinner, but of a Holy Ghost made sinner; that is when one is made to see their sinfulness before God and their need for Christ, the Saviour of sinners.

You see when we are Holy Ghost made sinners, we become as this publican did Lk 18:13

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

And the scripture said of him:

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Holy Ghost made sinners are they who are made to mourn Isa 61:1-3

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

Jesus in His Most Blessed Sermon on the Mount spake these words Matt 5:3-4

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

You see, all of the people Christ died for to save from their sins Matt 1:21, they shall by the Spirit, be made to feel their sinfulness and their need for their Saviour, again this by the Power of the Holy Spirit.

The fact is, though we are sinners by nature, we really dont know it experimentally until we are made Spiritually alive to God by the Spirit.

You see, the pharisee in Lk 18:11-12

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

This man was also a sinner before God, but he never knew it, he never felt it as did the publican, and he never would unless he be made a sinner by the work of the Spirit,, only then will he flee to Christ as He is revealed to him in the Gospel !

Thats what had to happen to Paul, and what needs to happen for all whom He[Christ] died, and what shall happen to all for whom He died, The Spirit shall make each Vessel of Mercy Cry our for the same, Like this Publican Lk 18:13-14

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. 7
