Do you believe that the Holy Spirit no longer speaks directly to God's people? After all, there would be no scripture if the Spirit of God had not spoken to God's people.

Don't bury the lead, which is that the HS inspired the OT before the NT,
although it was not revealed that He indwelt believers until Acts 2:4 &38 and Rom. 5:5 & 8:9.

The Holy Spirit speaks to us in many ways. Scripture is one of them. The indwelling Holy Spirit can speak to us in that "still, soft voice" that guides us on the right path and warns us if we stray or danger is near.

When we read Scripture, we are reading the "Written Word of God." Through Scripture, we can surely learn of the mind of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, but Scripture is the Written Word of God. Good to read understanding that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are ONE!

The Holy Spirit communicates in various ways, but scripture is probably the most important. It's our link with the original brothers and sisters and with sound doctrine. Today, many lying spirits and false prophets are in the world. If we don't know and understand the scriptures we're easy prey.

we would be lost if the H.S. didn't speak to us. He certainly moves us in the right direction whether it's teaching, leading, counseling or guiding us. He proves the truth of God, Jesus & the H.S. 1st John relates to this immensely.

We read about Jeremiah: "...this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee..." We might be tempted to think that the author is Jeremiah since he wrote down the words, but it is clear that it is the Lord's words and Jeremiah is simply writing down what the author, the Lord, says. It is from the Lord's mind, so there are no limitations in the text that would apply based on any limited understanding, cultural or historical. Joshua (whose name means Jehova is salvation, just like Jesus' name), provides us with a picture of Christ himself. Joshua was told: "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."

The NT teaches that God gave the OT laws with the intent that they would lead sinners to depend on the atonement of Messiah for salvation, so the Gospel is what should be meditated on most, although didachaic moral teachings are important for spiritual maturation and thus should not be ignored (Eph. 4:11-25).

Good post. I was guided by the Holy Spirit one time to keep me from being found by 3 police teams that were searching for me to arrest me! I was walking on foot and they had cars. What happened was my tow sons had moved out together and were living somewhere and wound up getting evicted for non payment, and they both work! So I figured it was drugs and what else is a dad to do when his kids show up, I'm on the street. So I let them move in with me and that was a mistake. One saturday morning I woke up to the house falling down in the living room, they were fighting. I got up and they were tearing the place up so I went out there in Dad mode and broke it up. My younger son started being mouthy to me and I don't like being disrespected so I did what any Dad would do, I decked my son to the floor. And instead of fighting back or stopping(!!) he whipped out his phone and said he was calling the police on me, and so-what and he went outside and then the older son did too. And somehow they made friends real quick and cooked up a story that I started everything! Long story short, the cops tool the kids side and told me that if they have to come out here again, I am going to jail, and my younger son seemed powered up by hearing that and as soon as the cops left, he started being hostile and mouthy to me again. He thought he won and could push me around in my own house. I decked him again, that mouth! He called the police again and I hit the door, walking, my truck needed a starter at the moment. I didn't want to be there when the cops got there. I hit the sidewalk praying...Lord please don't let me get arrested today! Help Lord!! and then I hear a voice inside of me, turn left here....so I do! I keep walking, now turn right up there and go left in the alley...Yes Lord...Now go left again, stop here and rest (a nice sunny spot!) Now Get up quickly and go right,..and this continued for about 45 minutes to an hour and sometimes as I crossed an intersection, I would see a cop car two or three blocks down driving by...and after 45 mins or so the voice says, ok it's safe, you can go home now. and I asked for peace upon my return...and when I got home both of my sons were unusually peaceful and respectful! Praise God!!! I know that was the Holy Spirit. I just had a knowing that it was. And He has a different voice than Jesus does. Jesus spoke audibly to me one time and I don't know how (yes I do lol) but I recognized Jesus voice and they're different. The Holy Spirit Hid me from those cops at no time of this situation did I travel farther than 4 or 5 blocks from my house? Something like that. The Lord knew I didn't deserve to go to jail for anything, shut up boy!

He speaks to me other ways too. when I'm reading scripture a lot we basically talk. He speaks through rhemas, that's when he will make it sound like it is talking directly to me in the text. Sometimes He uses impressions. Sometimes another scripture will pop into my head, that's Him!

Thanks GWH. I agree that Christ's atonement is the thing. But I see the Old Testament testifying of that just as the New Testament does. When Moses strikes a rock and water comes out it is a picture of Christ being struck and those thirsty for salvation drink. When Joshua takes his own people across the river of judgment unharmed, it is a picture of Christ saving believers and bringing them in to the kingdom of God. And so forth.

Throughout the nt the writers refer back to the ot prophets even Jesus did this because the New Testament is the fulfillment of those Old Testament prophecies the Holy Ghost had given

Thanks GWH. I agree that Christ's atonement is the thing. But I see the Old Testament testifying of that just as the New Testament does. When Moses strikes a rock and water comes out it is a picture of Christ being struck and those thirsty for salvation drink. When Joshua takes his own people across the river of judgment unharmed, it is a picture of Christ saving believers and bringing them in to the kingdom of God. And so forth.

I agree that the events you cited link to the NT, but you are perceptive beyond belief if you can see the Gospel in OT passages such as Lev. 19:27, "Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard", or in Num. 33:13, "They left Dophkah and
camped at Alush"!

Thanks GWH. These scriptures you quoted are good examples of how scripture can hold meaning not often realized. For example, Num 33:13 contains two proper noun names. Dophkah meaning 'knocking' and Alush meaning I will knead (bread). So, the scripture could read "And they departed from knocking, and encamped in I will knead bread." Further, after they removed from Alush, they camped at Rephidim, which means 'rests'. It is easy to see that this can have spiritual meaning relating to the gospel. For example, we know the scripture, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." Also, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:" Certainly, I find it interesting that after knocking, bread occurs (Jesus is the bread of life) and rest occurs (Jesus is our rest).

Concerning the passage from Lev 19:27: "Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard." We should remember that Jesus is the cornerstone. The corner is important, then. So much so that the corners of a field of grain were to be left for the poor, the stranger, the needy who could find mercy. The corners of the altar are the place of strength, mercy, and refuge. The four corners represent Jesus in all directions and he has a four-fold nature as an ox, an eagle, a man, and a lion in parable language. Hair in the Bible is apparently a covering and speaks of the prophet or the word. So, perhaps this scripture is indicating not to remove the covering of the gospel from those who need mercy, nor to remove Jesus.

However these verses are to be interpreted, this is exactly what I am talking about when I say that the traditions of men have made the word of God of no effect. The whole Bible is talking about Jesus, not the New Testament only, and not just a few select verses of the Old Testament.

I said almost every page. That's one of those old ceremonial laws, and we don't follow them anymore. I'm not sure what your question is. ?
