yes all were condemned before the law , but there was an unwritten Law from heaven that enoch 7 th from adam found it and was taken to heaven . but generally yes sin was not imputeth before law but all were condemed and some were in prison till the descention of Jesus into the earth where he preached to the souls and freed them..
I think you are not reading this in a completely correct way. They were freed when the curtain was split that happened at the moment Christ died. That was because when that happened the atonement they had before that was not the perfect atonement for sin that atonement was in Christ. If you will check, with your concordance, all the scripture in the OT regarding death never says that physical death resulted in living with Jesus, although they had atonement before Jesus. It mentions they are asleep, for instance. Now, with Christ completing and perfecting atonement, they are alive in Christ, just as we are. They weren't in prison, there is no mention of prison, but lots of mention of being asleep. Those who died in their sin without atonement were never spoken of as asleep.
