Jesus taught us to pray..."Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven..."

Doesn't this suggest that God's will for us is a better future? Not one full of doom and gloom that some Christians would suggest?

God's will is that:
1 Timothy 2

2 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Ya I know Jesus gave us an example of how to pray but my prayer life with him is basically just conversations with him I feel most comfortable speaking to him as I would a most trusted and loved friend

First: So good to see you posting Brother........hope you and yours are well.

"Thy will be done..........."

To me......God's will encompasses quite a lot. I do believe He wants us to have a joy filled life, but He did not promise us we would not go through trials and such. In fact, Jesus told us we would. It is through the trials of life that we grow stronger in Christ, and our faith grows stronger as well. Much like the physical body needs exercise to grow in strength, so does the spiritual. Still, we need not fear these trials, for He will never leave us or forsake us. He will be our sword, shield and strength to carry us through the trials of life.

I do agree that too many Christians (in my opinion) focus on the "doom and gloom" of this life, rather than on the joy of Christ, and entering into His rest. But, that may just be me.

Again, good to see you..........may God bless and keep you and yours.

Well Gods will is that all who believe Jesus and trust in the Atonement He has secured for their salvation shall have eternal life with God in His perfect eternal existence.. So yeah those who believe will have a much brighter future...... On the other side of the final judgement.... But on this life there are no such assurances of perfect lives of bliss... Actually Jesus made it clear to us that our lives in this world would include tribulation..

Thanks brother, I'm sure my return will be short lived. I believe you also missed my point. God brings trials our way for our benefit and growth, which still leads to an improved state of existence (quality of life) even if just mentally or spiritually.

If Jesus, in His example prayer, wants us to pray that His will be done on earth as it is in heaven, to me that suggests that our world should becoming a better place to live. I would suggest that it has since the 1st century Christian, there is an ebb and flow to morality of the world, be it seems to me it's more like the stock market-slowly creeping up. Perhaps if Christians like our selves took this prayer more seriously we'd see more rivals and more people coming to Christ.
