Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
now and forever. Amen. (Augsburg Fortress ©️ 2016)

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen. (Augsburg Fortress ©️ 2016)

Introduction
Our Father in heaven.

With these words God wants to attract us, so that we come to believe he is truly our Father and we are truly his children, in order that we may ask him boldly and with complete confidence, just as loving children ask their loving father.

The First Petition
"Whenever the word of God is taught clearly and purely and we, as God's children, also live holy lives according to it. To this end help us, dear Father in heaven! However, whoever teaches and lives otherwise than the word of God teaches, dishonors the name of God among us. Preserve us from this, heavenly Father!"
The Second Petition
"Whenever our heavenly Father gives us his Holy Spirit, so that through the Holy Spirit's grace we believe God's holy word and live godly lives here in time and hereafter in eternity."
The Third Petition
"Whenever God breaks and hinders every evil scheme and will -- as are present in the will of the devil, the world, and our flesh -- that would not allow us to hallow God's name and would prevent the coming of his kingdom, and instead whenever God strengthens us and keeps us steadfast in his word and in faith until the end of our lives. This is God's gracious and good will."
The Fourth Petition
"Everything included in the necessities and nourishment for our bodies, such as food, drink, clothing, shoes, house, farm, fields, livestock, money, property, an upright spouse, upright children, upright members of the household, upright and faithful rulers, good government, good weather, peace, health, decency, honor, good friends, faithful neighbors, and the like."
The Fifth Petition
"We ask this in prayer that our heavenly Father would not regard our sins nor deny these petitions on their account, for we are worthy of nothing for which we ask, nor have we earned it. Instead we ask that God would give us all things by grace, for we sin daily and indeed deserve only punishment. So, on the other hand, we, too, truly want to forgive heartily and to do good gladly to those who sin against us."
The Sixth Petition
"It is true that God tempts no one, but we ask this in prayer that God would preserve and keep us, so that the devil, the world, and our flesh may not deceive us or mislead us into false belief, despair, and other great and shameful sins, and that, although we may be attacked by them, we may finally prevail and gain the victory."
The Seventh Petition
"We ask this prayer as in a summary, that our Father in heaven may deliver us from all kinds of evil -- affecting body or soul, property or reputation -- and at last, when our final hour comes, may grant us a blessed end and take us by grace from this valley of tears to himself in heaven."
Conclusion
That I should be certain that such petitions are acceptable to and heard by our Father in heaven, for God himself commanded us to pray like this and has promised to hear us. "Amen, amen" means "Yes, yes, it is going to come about just like this." (Augsburg Fortress ©️ 2016)

John 17:1-3 (KJV ©️ Christian Art Publishers 2016) "These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."

Topic of discussion: Have you ever heard of Concordia, the Lutheran confessions? I'm listening to that and also the Small and Large Catechism of Martin Luther using my Amazon Echo. Right now I'm listening to some gentle alternative music in the German language.

Thank you for sharing that prayer!
It is spoken daily or twice a day in many church liturgies throughout the world.

I don't know German, but I take Germany to be the Holy Roman Empire's dynastic successor state and subscribe to the Church of Martin Luther

the word Hallowed originates from the old English word halic which means holy or sacred

In the prayer the lord Jesus could of said yitquadah be thy name

Which means to be sanctified or Hallowed in Aramaic 😋

About the Concordia

The ten creedal documents and one in particular did not recognise the pope as the of head of the church . I believe it was about illogical differences and the historical context of the reformation period, including the significant changes of doctrinal debates and changes that led to the Lutheran church 🙂

Lol spoken like a true German 😋

Long live Germany and all there beautiful people

Including Arnold Schwarzenegger haha

Just a note from my scholar language friend noted:

and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

before the word temptation there is a definite article----- ( the ), which changes the meaning of temptation to a trial or testing.

Several bible versions capture this.

Now to expand the trial or testing we can take it one step farther to say---- Tribulation

And to keep us from Evil can be evil or evil one---Antichrist.

While I'm not much of a pre-tribulation believer, this is one place that has me wondering

Thanks. The OP gives the impression that the lord's prayer is the lyrics for that song.
well it could be, coz the German national anthem could have been inspired from unity in brotherly love striving for freedom, which is what the German national anthem is about and the lords prayer,

The German national anthem glorifies Germany, not Christ. Germany above all? I don't think so

well the lyrics of the national anthem where first wrote in 1841 by a poet called Hoffman,

If you use your imagination you could believe Poetry in motion is in the the lords prayer to , in a metaphorical sense. 🙂

It’s like taking to our friend @wolfwint

One of the reasons I didn’t learn German it’s because it’s backwards.

Instead of saying “How are you” they say it “You, how are”.

I don’t want to put the foundation of the house on the top of my house thank you very much and I don’t want to drive on the wrong side of the road like the British.

I’ll stick with Latin-based languages because they’re superior. :giggle:

Except English. What a hodge podge that is. I feel sorry for anyone who has to learn it as a 2nd language

Yeah the British version is messed up.
Have you heard someone from Liverpool “speak” English?
It’s like talking to aliens.

But the American English is cool because it’s precise enough, technical enough and vague enough for poetry.
It’s got the best of all worlds because America IS the best.

I go with the English does not have the oldest records of world languages, which really could mean that English could be last language The lord created, and last is not least in the kingdom of heaven, so it could be that actually English was an ingenious creation by God for a purpose that far surpasses gobble gook

DEUTSCHLAND ÜBER ALLES

Thank you. You speak of before the cross of Son as before crucified for all, under Law. Yet, now risen to never die ever again ever. Lives for us to live also in his resurrected life given to us by Father, at least this I see, only able to speak for me.
I see what you say, thank you. yes Lord deliver us, Is it finished or not John 19:30, what you did you came here to earth to do in flesh to do, Matthew 5:17? Is now done, right, You fulfilled Law, thank you

Wait a minute, you have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What????????????? but I need to not do those things I hate and do anyways, trying to learn how to not to do them anymore. Right, anyone else?

I, know I. want to and seem to not do, and repent to try all over again and ask God to forgive me again, all over again and again, this still has not worked, yet I want it to work, but had not, what is wrong with this Lord, I must be doing something wrong? keeping short accounts with you God. Why am I still doing what I now hate to do, Lust of the world, Lust of the flesh and the pride of life?
Ask personally to God living in you, through risen Son, that stepped in on the first day you decided to believe God Eph 1:13, to see you are accepted and forgiven by God forever, that is done John 19:30 for you by Son! This today is after the cross, not before it
What? But I must not do those things I know I hate to do!
Let go, trust God has and will reveal to you God by Son has done it for you, then you will do love to all, at least learn to over time in not giving up by God through Son that you are and remain forgiven by God wow! and learn to not sin so much as had, were being focused on to not sin, keeps people in and under sin. Now to learn new daily in mistakes made still from Father, Daddy, PaPa in risen Son for you.. This is like peeling an onion, what tears at first, until you get to the center and it is a sweet smelling savior
God loves us all so deeply, God went to a cross and was beaten and shamed, which took away sin John 1:29 for us to be seen as new from Father as if never sinned Col 1:21-23 Believe God, see new from God and stand in trust to God it is finished for you to be new in love and mercy to all too!
Thank you Father and Son as Won (One)
