A traveling Christian preacher known for carrying a cross through every nation of the world has died.
Arthur Blessitt "departed to heaven" on Tuesday, according to an announcement on his ministry page.
The 84-year-old is widely recognized for carrying a 12-foot, 45-lb cross over 43,000 miles in over 300 countries.
Blessitt was known internationally as the "Pilgrim with the Cross" and dedicated his life to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In his book The Cross, Blessitt wrote, "After having carried the cross in every nation, I can say that the world is open to and hungry for the good news of Jesus and the cross. The only problem is that the laborers are few, as Jesus said."

"My goal has been to get the cross off the wall and into people's minds and hearts, where they can understand and experience its message," he continued. "A large cross being carried makes an unforgettable impact on the mind of the person who sees it. Years later people still remember when and where they saw the cross being carried."

According to a statement, Blessitt began preaching at the age of 15 and was ordained as a minister at the age of 20. By the age of 29, he set out on his journey to share Jesus with the world.

This would normally go in the news forum but I thought it was something to be discussed. I can recall when Arthur was on the TV news, dragging the cross years ago. I guess I never thought that he had continued to so many countries. What a testimony of God's love and spreading the Gospel to the entire world. I know not all of us can go around the world to spread the Gospel, I didn't make it that far. But each one can reach one right where they are. Each person has a mission field. Let's share some ways that we can spread the Gospel in our mission fields, every day, not online but face to face.

We had a church we attended before I moved and they put a banner over the door as the congregation left that said "Now you are entering your mission field". Do you have a special outreach in your church, or something you do on your own? We had a family friend who was miraculously saved when he was older in life. He had gone to school with Lee Majors, the actor. He was a very tall man, but friendly as a puppy dog. He was alone in life but for a sister. He would go sit at local Mc Donalds and would chat people up with his "million dollar man" friend story and the next thing he would be leading people to Jesus. There's no telling how many people he spread the Gospel to. He was a bold witness. Sometimes we get busy in life but we must remember that we each have a mission field. How can we spread the Gospel to as many people as we can in these last days?

Lord, bless his wife and daughter in this time. One day he told the then Pope, upon meeting him ''Is there anything I can do for you?'' and he responds, ''Arthur, you are extraordinary, for people are always asking me to do something for them.'' (paraphrazed)

A student from Hillsdale college I ran into online told of a cross-country trip she was taking in her car. Driving late, she pulled up to a busy restaurant/fuel center and decided to grab a quick nap. After drifting off, she was startled by a knock on her car window. It was Arthur and his cross on the interstate?? Saying, ''Are you hungry?'' she said ''Yes!'' So he parked the cross and they broke bread amongst the truckers.
