Halley's comet I remember was a big deal because it appeared in 1986 (I was six) and people said that it wouldn't come around again for many years.

The Southern lights appeared pinkish the time I saw them, but they can appear green.

I've seen the rings of Saturn through a telescope. It is interesting the different colours planets are.

Mercury - grey
Venus - yellowy grey (could have been a failed earth)
Earth - blue and green/brown/white
Mars - red
Jupiter - stripy brown/beige/orange with a red spot
Saturn - yellow
Neptune - dark blue
Uranus - greenish blue
Pluto - orangey brown

This was posted recently by Chief Meteorologist Mike Collier, taken by Gary Humphries here in Oklahoma. This is how the Milky Way looks in the country with the naked eye. Of course, it looks even better in person, but this is a very nice shot of it...
