Pardon my Mean Girls reference :) Couldn't resist :D

I met with a male client earlier today who has clearly had a lot of plastic surgery and it made me wonder how many people are doing this and what most people think about it. I understand that attorneys are more likely to have this done than any other group.

There was a lady who owned a modeling agency years back who had surgery to reduce her arm fat. She died from complications, leaving a small child behind.

Many women are having the “mommy pack” done (puts things back where they were after you have a baby if you have trouble with it on your own). A lot of people who lose a considerable amount of weight benefit from plastic surgery. Children with cleft palates and other difficulties benefit as well.

I may have done a similar thread some time back..can’t remember :D I’m always curious to see how others feel about this. What do you think?

Plastic surgery for cosmetic purposes is just lame and vain and a waste of money. Getting a nose job or breast implants because you think yours are imperfect is vanity at its highest form. Cleft palates or having a broken nose or jaw redone is an entirely different matter.

I agree with CCG up there. For medical purposes i totally agree with plastic surgery, but to get it so your breasts will be larger or your nose smaller or your stomach thinner, nah i think thats just pure foolishness.

I've yet to see a single example where plastic surgery made a celebrity look better, not worse. The only time I've seen it work is when someone had some sort of major deformity. And I love CCG's post! :)

Plastic surgery is a fantastic thing, can help people recover from awful disfigurements from bad accidents and many other things.

Tha vanity side, where to begin.....
Right now the UK Government is reviewing data about faulty breast implants manufactured in France that thousands of women have, they've been shown to have a high risk of rupture and the French Government is paying for removal for all french women who have them.

I sympathise with the situation these women are in, it must be awful knowing their implants are faulty and could pose an unknown health risk, on the other hand if the UK Government decides to pay for thousands of women to have them removed it's going to be taxpayers suffering a financial burden to bail women out of a mistake driven by juvenile vanity, and it's real hard to feel a grain of sympathy,

I will always believe people should take the momey they save for cosmetic surgery and go see a therapist, which is what they really need.

BTW Jullianna - why are attorneys more likely to have plastic surgery?

If I were a plastic surgeon I don't think I would want to work on someone who could literally sue the pants off of me the next day. *lol*

If I were President of the world I'd make plastic surgery available only to those with previous injuries/illnesses whereby the plastic surgery would return them to a normal standard of living physically and emotionally. Those who genuinely lost a lot of weight by exercise and diet and got a lot of left over skin, they can have it too. But surgery for women who aren't content with their body because they listen to other women who are fooling them or reading magazines with anorexic 16 year olds on them? Utterly stupid. I think breast implants should only be given to those who have had breast cancer and had to have one or both removed.

What can I say, getting tummy tucks and liposuction just contributes to the pill popping quick fix culture the western world loves to attribute to themselves.

CCG: great post :)

wyler: I dunno. They did a study on it. I was very surprised. Attorneys led actors in having plastic surgery:)

Cheeky: whew....:D

Gabe: I agree. Look at poor Bruce Jenner! :eek:If the guy I saw today lifts his face one more time, his bellybutton is gonna be a cleft chin.

I don't like the idea for the most part. I can see it with some people who maybe have more significant issues that cause them some sort of mental distress.

I remember this guy who appeared on extreme makeover. He was a good looking, very masculine man, but they ended up turning him into some kinda metrosexual.

I guess that is what I hate most about trends in plastic surgery. Its misuse reflects awful destructive cultural trends. The fall of true masculinity, the sacrament that sexuality has become, and the desire to prolong youth to a ridiculous extent.
