Our words have power, and they can speak life into someone else or they can be hurtful. I invite you to share Scriptures in this thread that show how we can use our tongues to bring honor and glory to God and to encourage and build up one another.

I'll start with a couple . . .

"Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that confess his name." (Heb. 13:15, NIV)

"Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones." (Prov. 16:24, NIV)

Next . . .

Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, Ps 16:9

The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and tongue speaks what is just. Ps 37:30

Great post!!

Proverbs 18:20,21 'A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof'.

Eccl 12:9-11 'And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs. The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth. The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd'.

Psalm 119:165 'Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them'.

Prov 1:1-7 'The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels. To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction'.

Thank you, Sparkie12.

Here's another one:

"May my lips overflow with praise, for you teach me your decrees.
May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous."

(Ps. 119:171-172, NIV)

What do you think of these words that came from the lips of Jesus Christ who redeemed you with His own blood and saved you by His grace?

Mark 8:33-38 'But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men. And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (don't seem much comfort in that) For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels'.

Not exactly the kind of thing that Peter and the disciples wanted to hear. I see lots of negatives and nothing to comfort those that had to hear it, which included the people and His disciples. It was not the first time that He had said things that rebuked His disciples. Read (John 6:57-71) and ask God to show you the real intent of what he was communicating to His disciples.

Proverbs 18:4,6-8,and 21 all these verses in proverbs are about the tongue. The on I like the best is verse 20 Death and life are in the power of the tongue.

Yes, those are excellent Scriptures about the tongue. And now to get back on topic of how we can use our tongues to bring honor and glory to God and/or to encourage others, here is another verse:

"Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones." (Prov. 16:24, NIV)

I think this is the verse you are refering to Robo...

Ephesians 4:15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Him who is the head, that is, Christ.
