2Peter 1:4 'Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust'.
2Cor 7:1 'Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God'.
Heb 6:10-12 'For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises'.
In the 32,000 verses of the (66) books of the Bible, there are over 7,800 promises in God's word. That is about 1 out of 4 verses. That is 25% of the scriptures involve God's promises. The gospel of Jesus Christ is not just a promise from God but is filled with the promises of God. Every aspect of the gospel is filled with promise. 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved and thy house' (Acts 16:31). That is a promise from God. 'Come unto me all you that are heavy laden and I will give you rest' (Mt 11:26). That is a promise from God and God is not a man that can lie (1Kings 8:56, Titus 1:2). 'I will never leave you or forsake you' (Heb 13:5). 'And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand' (John 10:28). These are promises from God, and all the promises of God in Christ are YES and AMEN (2Cor 1:20).
Through the promises of God we become a partaker of God's divine nature and escape the corruption that is in the world through lust. Through these promises we cleanse ourselves of all the filthiness of the flesh and spirit. We through faith and patience inherit these promises. Abraham obeyed God and would have slaughtered his own son Isaac, because he had a promise and judged God to be faithful who had promised.
How important are the promises of God to our lives? We would not even have the Holy Spirit unless Christ had not promised that the Holy Spirit would come (John 15:26, 16:7, Gal 3:14, Eph 1:13). Is it not the promises of God that we cleave to and believe God for when we need Him for our situation. What are some of the promises of God that are dear to your heart?
