But, all kidding aside, the ring is just a material object. I'd accept a band made of honeysuckle-vine if I knew that the guy presenting it was the man that God wanted me to marry :).

Huh. Hopefully not, they are notorious for shedding their fluff. I would end up looking like a duckling, in short order. But, the more I think about it, the more appealing the band of honey-suckle vine sounds. Then Prince Charming doesn't have to worry about picking out something I'd like, and I won't feel obligated to wear something he spent money on, but didn't appeal to me. Plus, I get to have fun designing my own, and it won't look like anyone else's. Any other artsy girls here who would like that? Maybe I'm weirder than I thought.........

Ok, now that we've picked out my ring, let's find the man that's gonna give it to me. ;)
 
I love the idea of having a unique ring or even a colored stone like a sapphire or ruby, as long as it is still going to look like a wedding ring. I say this because MOST guys will respect such a ring and not hit on you. If it isn't obviously an engagement or wedding ring, some guys can be a little dense. :) Makes life a little easier for everyone if it's apparent. :D

I like somewhat traditional with a twist. Like what Jullianna said, as long as it can be identified as an engagement ring, it's all good. ^_^ I prefer fun and different. I think i would definitely rather be surprised than pick it out myself though.
 
I totally agree! The element of surprise when it comes to the proposal and ring is VERY cool :D

CCG: I understand. Some women don't really want an engagement ring and prefer a wedding band. I learned very quickly how unwise it was for a cop to wear rings with stones in them and only wore the wedding band of my rings most of the time.

I think most women would prefer to be surprised. It must be really hard for guys to know what we might like. Paying attention to the type of jewelry a lady wears or DOESN'T wear might be helpful...or walking around the mall and visiting jewelry stores when things start getting serious and talking about what the two of you might like. Ladies can help out by letting guys know if they have allergies and what they do and don't like. We should really help them out whenever we can. :D To be honest, most of us love whatever we are given when we know that a lot of thought and love went into the choice. :)

I feel your Mothers ring is a reflection of your'e heritage. The solid upbringing instilled in you, it symbolizes fidelity, perseverance, and integrity.

Any man that is honored enough to have your'e heart placed next to his will understand this
 
I really don't want a diamond. At all.

I actually have a peridot claddagh ring I wear on my right hand and I think it could be cool to have a claddagh ring as my engagement ring - or even the one I have.

But really, I don't care. Except I'm not a huge fan of candy so I don't think I'd love a ring pop. Cracker jack boxes have rings occasionally, right?


..oh... and in the profession I was heading towards (conducting..) there were many people with rings tattooed on their fingers so that when they were conducting the light did not catch on metal or stones. I know 80% of my classmates thought that was insane - because when it's tattooed on it really means "forever" but one classmate and I thought it was a pretty cool idea.
