I saw an interesting post/question posed on facebook today, and thought it would make a good thread.

What are some songs, tv shows, or movies that have impacted or life and/or played a roll in the story of your life?

The movie Facing the Giants has had a huge impact on my life. I have seen it about a dozen times, but it never gets old. I really feel like God has spoke to me through that movie.

Instead of playing these fun games, why not post this message to all the lukewarm and those who love the world more than God, I dont know your heart, but it seems the lost church is more intertested in TV shows, movies, etc, over the word of God, as most who profess Christ are dead to His word, and know more about their favorite TV or sports, what a shame!

In flaming fire!

2Th 1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God and who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ…………
The main problem I am seeing in modern Christianity today is a poor understanding of who God is, and what He is asking mankind to do to be reconciled back to Him. Many, who profess to be saved, do not know God, and those who profess to be atheist, just deny reality. Both positions are a very dangerous place to be in, as stated in 2 Tim 1-8.
I was taught for most of my lukewarm Christian life, that God is more concerned with your ability to just believe He exists, and that He sent His son Jesus to be a substitutional sacrifice and overcomer for all those who were born depraved and unable to truly repent, and seek His mercy, then follow Him in an obedient faith, brought forth by a love, fear, and respect of a God who commands and demands ALL mankind to depart from iniquity and repent(not confess and believe) But stop sinning, for example, stop fornication, stop adultery, stop drunkenness, lying, cheating, stealing, and also put away the love of the world, and all its vain attractions!
Now for those who follow another gospel that promises them liberty, while actually telling them they are eternally saved and going to heaven because they said the sinners prayer (sorrow of the world) and then trust all is done, all sin is pre forgiven, and repentance is more of an apology or confession you are a sinner and cannot stop your vile sins this side if heaven, woe to you!
To know and obey God should be the number one concern of the church today, not “trust” in something that never happened, i.e., penal substitution, OSAS, or any false gospel that would declare you righteous while you are still defiled or unrighteous, telling you are depraved and a sinning saint till the day you die!
Those who know God and obey as commanded, will clearly see the huge difference between the saved in sin cloaked message being sold today, and the free, simple message Jesus and the profits brought to the lost sinning masses thousands of years ago.
Which was, man has free will and ability to choose to obey or not, repentance towards God and faith towards Jesus Christ was preached far and wide as the only means to be reconciled to God and enter the kingdom.
This repentance and faith meant the vile rebellion stopped before mercy would even be considered, please read Jonah Ch 3, and the Prodigal son, who stopped his rebellion BEFORE his father would forgive him and accept back.
I wrote this short message in an attempt to show the reader and seeker of truth the huge difference between what is taught as truth today, which is another gospel and another Christ, and the true gospel according to obedience, repentance, godliness, and purity that can only come from a crucified soul, broken through a crisis of conviction, followed by real repentance and godly sorrow, assuming nothing from God, except hoping He relents and grants you mercy and pardon.
This is not an attempt to explain in detail the problems with the church today, along with all the leaven added into the pure word for the last 500 years or so. This has been covered before in great detail, for those who are willing to dig deep, and count the cost, come out of the church system and world, and seek the pearl of great price, that is free and available and calling all those in bondage to freedom and purity that can only come when you seek to know God and obey His commands!
Isa 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
Isa 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

Hm...I think as kid, Little House on The Prairie taught me a bit about morals, empathy and faith. As a 13 year old, grunge music- Nirvana, Soul Asylum, Soundgarden, etc contributed to my teenage angst and sense of style lol *palm-face*. If I would have to pick my life's movie, I would say Good Will Hunting. Although I do not identify with Will completely, there are a few things that stand out that are reflective of my life.

And here I thought we would hear something about LOTR.

I don't know about teen angst music. In middle and high school I listened to a lot of MxPx, Slick Shoes, Noggintoboggin, and a lot of other christian pop punk bands. All their songs were about God or "that special girl", so as a high school boy, what else in life was there?

I went through my angry music phase last year, and listened to a lot of really aaaaannnngggeeerrrry metal like machine head and pantera.

Two songs that have really always touched me though, were Acquiesce and Shiv by Stavesacre. The singer/lyricist always manages to reflect my exact thoughts and feelings in every circumstance I go through, and these two songs seem to always relate with something I'm dealing with.

Yeah, Acquiesce had an effect on me as well. He has some great lyrics.

Growing up I really related well to this song (I'm sure allot of people do), and listened to it often...

Also, after getting saved, I listened to this song over 150 times in the span of a week. I think that qualifies it for having an impact on my life.

Alexander carried the Iliad. TE Lawrence carried Le Morte D'Arthur. My choice of inspirational poetic fiction is Henry V.

Let me speak proudly: tell the constable
We are but warriors for the working-day;
Our gayness and our gilt are all besmirch'd
With rainy marching in the painful field;
There's not a piece of feather in our host--
Good argument, I hope, we will not fly--
And time hath worn us into slovenry:
But, by the mass, our hearts are in the trim;

There is a line in that play for every season of life.

My favorite movie is Barcelona, a semi-independent film by Whit Stillman that has largely to do with cultural differences, men coming of age, America's place in the world, the effects of cultural rot and differing perspectives. Oh, and it is a romantic comedy! The jokes are all delivered deadpan in the Dr.Strangelove fashion (one of my other favorite films).

It was unique in that it was a film that defended American culture and world views in a sophisticated fashion. Something rare these days.

Music: post-punk revival and classical music (particularly waltzes by Tchaikovsky and Strauss) seem to convey my essence in their sounds. That sounds strange I suppose, but its true. I wouldn't say they have great meaning, but they make for a suitable and pertinent soundtrack.

My favorite books are rather like my taste of music, a mixture of age-old creativity and a modern edge. I'm a fantastical realist in both my approach to writing and reading. Dostoevsky's work in particular opened my eyes to political, philosophical, and religious possibilities I had yet to comprehend. Funny, witty, deep, surreal, engaging. They have mixed with my worldview to form a deeper understanding than I would be wont to acquire otherwise.

On the modern edge side, Scifi is the name of the game. The Ender, Dune, and Hyperion series of books have stayed with me.

In the realm of television Star Trek TOS, TNG, and MST3K always resonated with me. Why? Escape. There are days I relish the idea of leaving this rock behind to simply enjoy life with the freedom to do good, contemplate, solve puzzles, laugh with friends. The only law being what the Creator himself ordained at the foundations of the World...and the Prime Directive. :P

To slip the surly bonds of Earth and touch the face of God.

Music - Jars of Clay's 'Faith Like A Child' (too many other bands/songs to mention)
Movies - Star Wars 4, 5, 6
TV series - Round the Twist, LOST
Books - The Chronicles of Narnia, The Adventures of Tintin, Frank Peretti's 'The Oath'.

I listen to a different version of this song and different words, but I think it is still the same idea. This is my life, my daily walk!
