My main trick for all electronic thingies that fail is: Restart it.
It sounds stupid, but more often than not, it helps.

If it doesn't help, and the thingy has settings: Check them!

:)

If you're having network issues, try removing and reinserting the LAN/network cable. It resets the network adapter..saved me a lot of trouble and time at work doing just this in the past :)

A quick way to view the desktop when you've got heaps of windows open is Windows Key (next to Ctrl) + D. Use your left little finger and middle finger.

If restarting doesn't work, maybe a power cycle will. ;)

Power cycling electronics:

1. Disconnect power
2. Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds
3. Reconnect power

This sometimes clears up minor issues with firmware in various devices. It works on printers, computers, modems/routers, and then some.

A more specific one:

If you copy something from the feeder at the top and the copy ends up with a line on it
and there is no line when copying from the glass
- Clean the "CVT window" that is, that narrow bit of glass beside (mostly to the left of) the main glass.

left arrow points to CVT window
