First Trumpet
And the seven angels having the seven trumpets prepared themselves, that they might sound the trumpets.
And the first sounded his trumpet, and there was hail and fire having been mixed with blood, and it was cast upon the earth. And a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up. – Rev.8:6-7

As the first angel sounds his trumpet, hail and fire mixed with blood is thrown upon the earth, with the results being a third of the earth and trees being burned up, and all green grass.
The first thing to notice, is that these elements as we know them, are not compatible, as blood is liquid and non combustible and hail is frozen water, neither being compatible with fire. Therefore, either these elements represent something else and John is using hail, fire and blood to describe something else, or they are symbolic. The fact is that there is just not enough information to know what these elements are or what they are representing, because though fire burns, literal hail and blood could not burn up anything, much less a third of the eath and the trees. However, the fact remains that the results of the sounding of the first trumpet will result in a third of the earth and trees being burned up and all green grass.
Now, to grasp the true impact of this trumpet, if you have a third of the earth and trees being burned up by whatever means, then there is going to be an unknown amount of fatalities associated with that. You can’t burn up a third of the earth and its trees without people also being burned up. A third of the earth (sea not included) is a pretty large amount of the earth. How many fatalites will result from this? We don’t know! Because where the fourth seal and sixth trumpet give percentages, they are not provided with any of the other plagues of wrath. But one can conclude that if a third of the earth and trees are being burned up, then there will be large number of fatalities as a result. So, we can add these unknown fatalities to the list of a fourth of the earths inhabitants being killed as a result of the previous seals.
