These are some of the notes I took in church this morning.

God is creative. He takes what is evil and brings the good out of it.

God didn't make this world broken, the fall did that.

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." -Romans 8:28This is not saying that all things ARE good but it is saying that God will BRING good.

This is a big promise because it says "...that in ALL things..." When God says ALL he means ALL. He may not stop all suffering but He WILL REDEEM ALL of it.

"...God WORKS for the good..." The word WORK demands activity so problems are not a sign of divine inactivity but rather a sign of divine activity working to try to redeem the situation.

"...for the GOOD of..."Gods definition of good is different from ours. Gods definition is more eternal and goes beyond immediate pleasure. He also wants to transform others through you.

When hardship comes God is thinking "how can I use this for good?"

Who is this promise for?"...for those who love him..." and "...those who have been called according to his purpose."

So what do you think of all this?
 
I'd say that's accurate. Gods speciality is turning bad into good. That is, after all, what He does with humans, right? Takes sinners and makes them righteous. This is kind of a central theme of Gods character, bringing good out of evil circumstances.
 
Jas 1:2-5
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

God not only brings good out of adverse circumstances; but He also uses them to build His character in us.
 
I don't believe God is surprised by any hardships we enter...He either designs them or pulls our feet from falling fully into them.
