Just thinking of the victorious Christian life. How are we meant to appropriate the fact that we are more than conquerers? Is the battle meant to be as gritty and overwhelming as it seems at times?
What is the significance of ideas like bypath meadow an d giant despair in your experience?
 
Ecclesiastes Chapter 3


1 To every [thing there is] a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up [that which is] planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
 
I apologise in advance if I don't fully understand your question.

I love Romans 8 (my favorite chapter)! As you mentioned, it does say that because of God's inseparable love, "weare more than conquerors." Just two verses before, we are called "sheep to the slaughter" as well. This may seem like a contradiction, but because our hope and victory isn't in this life, we can gladly lay down our lives for The Gospel.

John 16:33
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. :)

whatever the battle, in whatever circumstance we find ourselves, Christ is enough. (much more!)

i have learned, when times are hard, to remember Him, who loves me. Christ is enough.
when times are good, i need to remember all the more, Christ is enough.
when i have more than i need, or am in want of something, Christ is enough.

i really know how trite this can sound. younger me would have dismissed old me with a shrug... she doesn't understand!
but this is the blessing of this gift of perseverance God grants us. yeah, it takes time, but the One who promised is faithful.

Doubting Castle will fall. Giant Despair is defeated. Bypass Meadow gets bypassed. mostly! are there still moments? sure. but day by day, God teaches His dear but helpless children, He. is. enough.

you are not alone, Mooky. never, for one second, alone. the love of God, how hard to understand, how deep, how wide, how unending. it too often doesn't make my daily battle easier, but i think it should. :o
