A nameless inner city child, longs to get away
to some sweet oasis , where the wild birds sing free
but his friends are all from the gutters and he can't find his way
so let the water from the mountain wash his troubles away

And a sweet girl from the country, went to the city on a whim
she said "Manhattan is my lover", and she fell in with him
She's just seventeen sticking needles in her veins
Let the water from the mountain, wash the morphine away

The water from the mountain, melts down in the Spring
and cleanses the garbage that's been accumulating
the the gutter fills up , all Summer and Fall
then comes the snow of the Winter, to bury it all

The highway is a calling, in it's seductive way
it could go on forever, with its joys and it's pains
many have died upon it, and many have gone astray
so let the water from the mountain, wash their sorrows away

And the selfish self-lover, on a steel horse he rides
he belongs in the sewer, where no true love abides
where karma and his brothers, can beat is good looks away
and let the water from the mountain, wash his carcass away

The water from the mountain, melts down in the Spring
and cleanses the garbage that's been accumulating
the the gutter fills up , all Summer and Fall
then comes the snow of the Winter, to bury it all

I am still a young man, but I am falling apart
but as my body decays, I remain true in my heart
Now the sun's gone to hide, and the sky has turned grey,
Let the water from the mountain, wash my memory away

The water from the mountain, melts down in the Spring
and cleanses the garbage that's been accumulating
the the gutter fills up , all Summer and Fall
then comes the snow of the Winter, to bury it all
